Marty- I saw a request for a bore snake... request did not mention anything about size.  When I was out shopping I saw they come in several sizes is there a general rule of thumb?

Great device that Bore Snake! I use one all the time after hunting/target shooting. Look on Ebay and I am sure you can find one. M-16's are .223 caliber, so you should be able to find one that fits. If it fits an AR-15 or a Ruger Mini-14, (which are also .223) it should work fine. If none on Ebay, find local gun shops.

     Great question:

Two basic bullet sizes:  .223 and 7.62

The .223 is the most common and the 7.62 is used by M-14s (sniper) often.

Good rule of thumb is about 6 .223 snakes for every 1 7.62 snake.

However, cleaning patches and solvent are THE hardest things to come across.  Don't mess with sending solvent, but toss in some patches and they will be really appreciated.

    For comparison shopping try nextag.com

    For camping equipment: campmor.com

    Just my 2 cents.

    Hi Sarah,

That's a good question.  Sometimes things are requested that I have no idea what the heck they are or if I figure it out, there's a million different varieties.

Thank heavens we have Marty and Journeyfan here to offer practical advice!!

    Take care,

    Maggie

I thought of another site to comparison shop: www.bizrate.com

My husband is a correctional officer with Cal. dept of corrections.  We have been ordering a few things from  quartermaster.com.  It's what he uses on the job.  They have all the things the cops use.  It's great.  So far all the items we have sent have been well recieved.

While looking for P-38's( the now defunct can opener)  I found a site that sells military items.

    www.soldiercity.com

www.sierratradingpost.com is a site I use to buy outlet clothing. You can find some deals here.

If you can tolerate the one-item-at-a time aspect, this site often has some decent looking items the soldiers request such as headlamps, socks, and pocket knife at decent looking prices
