My suggestion:  Flat only.  Twin is very universal, BUT if you find a great sale on doubles, go with them.

Strongly suggest NOT super quality sheets, but quantity is better than quality.  Reason is that they will get trashed quick anyway, likely stolen in laundry (if they even have laundry), etc.

Sheets and pillows are GREAT things to send.

Want to cause a smile?  Send kids sheets (if you find them on sale).  Square Pants sheets on a tough Soldier's bed will cause a smile everytime...(I know its goofy, that is the point ;)

I was able to find a variety of character pillow cases at Big Lots for two for $3.  They had Sponge Bob, Cars, and my favorite, Superman, among others.  They also had some higher quality blankets for $5-10.  Someone suggested in the chat to roll the sheets into tubes rather than leave them pre-packaged to be able fit more in a FRB.  I'm trying that next time to see :)

There should be stores that have those fleece throws on sale about now......send those with the sheets.........makes for a lightweight cover no matter what time of year it is .......especially if their room has a/c.  The comment made about my boxes with the sheets and throws........(of course, I made sure the sheets matched the throws.....LOL) was when Chief made his round of inspections......."Looked like Martha Stewart invaded the wire!"

I have not sent pillows yet, but would like to.  What kind of box do you put them in?  I have only used the Flat Rate box for about 11.00 with no set weight.  Only one pillow would maybe fit in the large FR box.  I am in Tennessee.  Thanks for the help!

    Kitty Hello!

We sent two pillows last summer to Afghanistan. We had to use a box larger than the flat rate but we were able to squeeze some of the air out of them.

We sent them parcel and because there wasn't much weight it was affordable. They were a little slower but not much.

You may need a helper to help you seal the box.

    Pillows are in demand.

Thanks for supporting our troops, door

When shipping blankets, I put them in a trashbag, stuff the whole thing in the box and then suck the air out of the bag with a vaccum cleaner as I work the bag down into the box, then tie it off and tape it.  I worry about how well a pillow would recover from this treatment so I've never fully compressed one.  Whenever possible I have those direct shipped.

WalMart has reduced the price on their Mainstay sheets to $3 each for flat or fitted from $4. They were in the process of restocking my store, so there weren't many colors available, but they should get more.

    Re: What About Bedding Items?

I was at Walmart a couple of days ago (I shop late, late at night) and I was talking to the ladies that were stocking and told them what I was looking for and they told me about all of the stuff they were marking down. I got beige (that was the only color on sale that cheap)  200ct Twin sheet sets for $3.50 a set. I bought the last 9 sets we could find. They had a set of towels (they were Nascar related) bath, hand and wash towel in the set for $1.80. I bought 10 sets of these. They also had a rug (small blue kitchen type rug) marked down to $1.25 and I bought all they had. They had a real nice set of sheets (250ct) marked down to $10.00 for twin size in 6-8 different colors. They didn't have any of these things marked that way on the shelves or on the items I bought, but the ladies working there help me find these things. I guess if anyone else is looking for some good deals at Walmart, go late at night when the employees are stocking and hopefully they will be as nice as the employees here at my store in Frisco, Texas.  I had about 10 of them looking all around the store for things. When they found something for me they would track me down in the store and bring it to me. Now, that's good service.!!  Of course, they knew it was for the soldiers and I know that is why they wanted to help.

Does anyone know any person or service in the Dallas/Frisco area that helps with shipping expenses?. I have gotten quit a bit of stock that I have been stocking up on and I would love to make a big shipment to several different groups of soldiers.I need to make room in my house for my husband to sit down..If you know of someone, please email me with the names. Thank you. Kibby in Frisco.

What size pillows are most requested at the FOBs, especially in Afghanistan---standard size or travel size? One of the Walgreen's in my area has the travel size 2 for $5. Thanks.

    Re: What About Bedding Items?

What I have seen requested the most is full size, but ya know, if it was me, I had rather have one travel size than none at all.  The travel size will pack up a whole lot easier, and you can reach a lot more people with $25 also.  Even the pillowcases are cheaper.  If sending the full size pillows, I would rather get one of the good online deals and have them sent by the seller.
