Chips from the hometown area are requested often, as well. I buy the sealed cases from the factory outlet store and send them on.

We have started keeping the pretzel "pieces" - seasoned chunks of pretzels which are broken to start with.  They are good to use as "fillers" with other smaller or larger items to fill in odd shapes, etc., and usually have enough air in the package to serve similar to bubble wrap to cusion some items like cookies which are sometimes fragile.

I wouldn't know where to begin to tell you the challenges I've faced trying to fill in these small spaces with just one more thing...  Now, I have an alternative to the teeny beanie babies I turn to in a pinch.

My favorite thing to fill in small spaces is individual packs of Kleenex and indiv. bags of hot chocolate, Kool Aid, Etc..

Very lightweight, it can squish into odd shaped spaces, it cushions, and they can always use it!

I also slip lip balm into tiny spaces.  If contents are individually wrapped (like hard candy)  and it won't affect freshness I also *** bags to smoosh all the air out to save space.

MRS. A:  You are right that the tissues are one of the best things for very tight places, as are travel size toiletries (lotion, shampoo, toothpaste, etc.) that we send to hospitals and aid stations, but the pretzels we use are the larger 3.5 oz. size for the larger spaces to fill in whenever there is some odd-shaped item like the Betty Crocker Bowl Appetit dishes, etc.
