Hello from Cleveland, Ohio
Hello everyone,
My name is Diana and I am from cleveland, Ohio. I am an Anysoldier.com Support Junkie. I am single with no kids and I work as a home health aide in home care. I spend alot of my spare time writing to soldiers i have been supporting for the past two yrs who are on their second tour or who are at home.I have been fortunate to be able to meet a few that i supported and it was really great. I love Anysoldier and what they do for the soldiers and for people like myself who have this uncontrollable urge to help. It is very satisfying for me to be able to help as well as helpful to the soldiers on the receiving end.

Re: Hello from Cleveland, Ohio
Hello fellow Ohioan,
I am also originally from Ohio (born and raised in Cincinnati, but lived in Columbus for many years--Go Bucks!), but now live in western PA with my family. I am a newbie to this site, relatively speaking, but have become a "junkie" also. I've been an AnySoldier supporter for only a couple of months. It has been heartwarming to read the messages from all the soldiers and how they are affected by the support. I have not yet received any personal messages from the soldiers I have supported, but I don't expect replies. I'm just glad to help in any small way. I do hope to hear a little something though, just to know the packages have been received, so maybe soon. I have a family history of military service from grandfathers to uncles to brothers including every branch, so I am glad to help these young folks during this time. Thanks again to AnySoldier for this opportunity!

Welcome marslady. (I thought us gals were supposed to be from Venus? )
If you want to hear back, send stuff to female soldiers. They are more likely to respond. I don't think I've sent anything to a female soldier and not heard back eventually. But keep sending to those packages to the strong and silent types...they need your support too!

Hi Diana,
It is fun to see people on here that are from where you're from. Although I live in Michigan now I grew up in the Cleveland area and it still feels more "home" to me than here. We fly our Buckeye flag during football season even though it is a sea of maize and blue around here!!
It is inspiring to hear about all you have done and are continuing to do through this site. You are awesome.

OH IO :)
Hello from Lorain County, about 20 minutes west of Cleveland. I grew up in San Diego but I have lived her since my husband got out of the navy about 20 years ago. I still think of San Diego as home but my husband says they taught him in the Navy that home is where most of your underwear are, so I guess this is home now (I've always wondered if people who choose not to wear them are homeless).
I was just about to go post my own introduction but thought I would welcome you first...Welcome to the boards!

Re: Hello from Cleveland, Ohio
Hello Cleveland! I'm from Houston, been doing Any Soldier for about 3 years now, sometimes I think I should be doing more.......It's good to hear from people to see where they are from. Don't like living in Houston much. But am looking forward to getting old and retired so we can go back to Oregon!
Though I know I have nothing to complain about....not when our men and women of the armed forces are out there fighting for us.
My brother was a 20 year marine, he passed away October 31, I'm still recovering from that, but I will always feel that he instilled my patriotisim from when I was a small child. I always thought I aquired it as an adult. But I was recently home visiting my Mom and was going through my old things, and found a charm bracelet from when I was a kid that had a flag, soldier boots, soldier hat.....you get the idea. So that made me realize what an impact he had on me.....I miss him very much, but this is a way I give back to Marines like him who devoted their lives to the armed forces.

Re: Hello from Cleveland, Ohio
Hi Pat and all the others from Ohio,
It is so nice to see others from Ohio on here as I'm sure there are plenty more we just don't know about.
You know what is strange, I don't have anyone in the military, but when this war broke out I had this overwhelming feeling as to what can I do to help? I started searching sites and found Any Soldier and was like ok this is what I need to do. Back then, the addresses were posted right with the names, so i chose 5 names a week to write to and send a care pkg. to. Out of about 20 I received 3 replies which is wonderful. Well with the one reply i ended up adopting the whole unit which was 50 soldiers and wow were they awesome. I sent them 10 pkgs. a month which isn't a whole lot but to them it was everything. In adddition to them, I had 6 individual soldiers I was corresponding with and supporting thru letters and care pkgs. they were all scattered all over Iraq in different locations and different branches and missions. Through my soldiers is how I learned that what the media portrays is somewhat different than the actual findings going on over there. My soldiers told me how nice the Iraqui ppl are to them and how the children took to them and loved them so. It was really heartwarming and uplifting to hear this from them in such a sad time. Anysoldier has given me the opportunity to help others while satisfying a need within myself to help and i just want to thank Marty and the many many ppl who do the same thing ( and more). the site is very uplifting and I really enjoy being able to come here and correspond with other ppl who do the exact same thing I do.
thank you to all the military both active and non active and retired for everything they do. Because of them I can write this post.

Hello Pat. I look forward to posting with you. I read your grandson is going to Fort Lewis. I'm wondering if he going to be in a Stryker Battallion? I keep up with the 3/2 and the 4/2 Strykers deployed from Fort Lewis at the moment. Looking forward to hearing from you.

I haven't heard what unit he will be in. In Germany, he was in the 1-1 Cav. at Armstrong Barracks, which has now been closed.

Re: Hello from Cleveland, Ohio
Hi Cleveland and Ohioians...I lived a lot of my life there...I send packages to a lot of Ohio groups. I still call Cleveland "home"....You all are so lucky to have Marc's there...My favorite store to shop for the troops...When I go home. I have to make at least one stop there to stock up on soldiers things. I intentionally leave space in my luggage for that......I am always afraid if airport security opens my luggage and see's the unusual collection of stuff (like 10 for a 1.00$ nylons sponges or fly paper 3-for a 1.00 or black beannie hats 99cents each and whatever else you find there) they will pull me off my flight thinking I am a nut or something...LOL... I also Love to pick up sports things there to send too... GO TRIBE!!!
