    Venting on Walmart

Ok I have major complaint today. A friend of mine works for Walmart, has for aprox. 15 years.  She has given them ( Walmart) 100% of dedication. The only time she has missed was last year there were 2 deaths in her family,  even then she only missed long enough to go to the funerals.  Her son is in the Military and was in Iraq, he was coming home last Saturday so naturally she wanted to be there.  She had said something to the manager regarding taking  off. He informed her that was not a good excuse to get off on a Saturday. She was dumbfounded.  Needless to say, when Saturday came, she called in, and simply said something came up with her family.  Then this week she was called into the office and given an unexcused absent write up.  She said she told him very calmly, my family will always come first, I can always find another job, but I cannot find another son.

What is wrong with people that they cannot be thankful for our Military and honor them and their return!! I have decided I will boycott them. ( the funny thing is I did not boycott them last night, because when she called to tell me, I was not home, guess where I was)  Can you tell it angered me?

Thanks for listening to my gripe.

    Mags,

MAJOR BUMMER!!  I can't say I'm surprised though.  Walmart was a different company when Sam Walton was alive...he would roll over in his grave..the way they treat their employees and their customers.  Watch out guys..the prices on many items have jumped 30% at my Walmart.  I went there for the cheap school supplies...the 10 cent spiral notebooks are now on an endcap for $2.08!!  I hope that was a mistake on someone's part.  Gotta run back by today to check the cheap movie bin...I'll remember to look.

Kudos to that Mom who said her Son comes first!  Please tell her and her Son thank you for his Service!

    Hugs...Brenda

We all know what that manager is.  Where is this walmart?  I wouldn't shop there anymore.  I have noticed that our walmart is less supportive of out troops.  Just ticks me off.

Not to get political, but Walmart has a reputation for treating employees poorly, so this doesn't come as a surprise. The Walmart of today is no longer the family friendly company, featuring products made in America, that Sam Walton founded. Personally, I don't purchase any of my AS goods at Walmart.

OK, guys, having been in retail management for over 20 years....I have to say something. No, I do not and have never worked at Walmart, first of all. Walmart is not at fault here, the manager is. That is a huge load of baloney that the guy would not let an employee off for a special event such as that. Employee scheduling decisions are up to the manager. If you want to vent, get the facts, then the store manager's name and write him/her a letter telling them how you feel. Has anyone gone to Walmart's main website? Is there anything there promoting our soldiers? If not, then add that little bit to your complaint letter, too. Just my 2c worth.

    Re: Venting on Walmart

I personally work for Wal-Mart and have not ever had a problem getting off work for something family based.  In fact when my daughter enlisted in the Army in June they all awaited the call for me to race to watch her swearing in.  The next day they asked to see the pictures.  Even though she is on the future soldiers program and she still has almost a year to go before she leaves they were very supportive.  But, I know that each individual store is different and it is the management team that makes each store different.  I am so thankful that the managers that we have at my store still understand and put family first.

That really does s*ck for your friend. I agree that it is most likely the individual manager though who needs some "correction".  I do shop at Walmart but each time I do , it is not a pleasant experience. I think they have really lost it in terms of the human element, and they seem to be losing it as well in terms of their competitive edge.

I have tried to complain about another matter on their website, and good luck to you if you are able to navigate that maze and get any kind of response. Tarjay on the other hand, I find incredibly customer friendly and pleasant. Then again, it could very well just be the particular stores I frequent.

We should all write to Walmart's corporate offices and report this manager.  Who's game????

NYC just fought like all heck to keep Walmart out of here.  We don't want them.

There's still time to change the road you're on.

    Walmart

    Mags Hello!

Many businesses started with a good concept and over the years have lost the original vision.

Many companies have gotten into stocks to expand. Profits began to cloud everything else.

Power and money is a strong temptation and we know that few it does not corrupt but in its corruption it damages the one tempted whether it be a one person or a group. They never really profit because in their gain of the world they lose their soul.

Which brings us to the boss who wouldn't let your friend off work.

I would say that this person has become so emeshed in the job that they are becoming lost themselves. They could even become an enemy to your friend for defending herself.

    What should we do?

We should pray that they find their way back as they are suffering.

They are not at peace in their world that they try to control around them, it is not their own and never will be.

In praying for our enemies we show ourselves not to be above anyone but equal in our distribution of justice.

I pray for a sick friend one day and I pray for an enemy the next (maybe only an enemy because they are sick in a different way and are suffering, making them behave so poorly).

Tell our friend that she has us supporting her and her son who I would like to say Welcome Back!  Blessings, door

    Re: Walmart

FYI - even back in the olden days before Walmart Supercenters, Sam Walton was in the business of beating all the competition and starting new stores.  We new a young man who was either a dept. manager or asst. store manager, I forgot which, but their policy was that everything in the store when they opened in a location had to be at least a penny below the price of everyone else.  They said that it didn't matter if they lost money to start a store.  They would under-price everyone else, and all the mom and pop stores dried up.  In the small town near us, we slowly lost ALL the local family-owned stores that had been in business for decades.

That is the way good ole Sam Walton did business - crush the competition no matter what it took.  Then after he made his first multiple millions, he started trying to do PR to look good.  He also hired so many people that only a few at the top got 40-hour a week jobs so that they couldn't make a living or qualify for insurance, etc. - no perks or even a living wage.

Some of our young family members have tried working there - one for years, and got disgusted.

I worked for WalMart many years ago, once I quit I wouldn't frequent the place for years.  I'm backing shopping there, but only because it is two blocks from my house.  I have noticed that prices are rising there and it isn't the cheapest place to shop anymore.

This manager needs to be taught some managerial skills...

    Re: Venting on Walmart

One of my K-9 handlers got married earlier this year while home for R & R.  His fiancee worked at Walmart, was a good employee, and asked for 2 weeks off to go on leave to be with him and get married (which was happening out of state).  They denied her leave and said she'd get fired if she took time off.  Seems that they were short handed.  Well, now they're even more short handed because she quit (big surprise, eh?!).  And the irony is that my K-9 handler friend said that they were even attempting to hire back some fired employees who had horrid performance reviews because they needed the help.  I had heard about less than stellar employee treatment at Walmart, but I had heard that they were supportive of the troops.  Now I only go there to buy deep discount items and return to other stores for my real shopping.

    Re: Venting on Walmart

I am not agreeing with the manager's decision in this case, and you would think that a fellow employee that had the day off would have volunteered to work for her. I know I would have. Often times managers in large retail stores where staffing is critical are put in no win situations. They can let employees have the days off for important family events and have customers gripe about staffing issues, or they can deny requests for time off and lose employees. Maybe next time we are in a store and the lines are a little longer then we would like to wait in, or we can't find an employee to help us with something we can give the store the benefit of the doubt because maybe they let someone have the day off for something really special.
