can someone educate me on corn nuts.....

One of my contacts requested corn nuts. I've never had them and don't know much about them. I went to Walgreens and they didn't carry them. I went to the grocery store and they carried small bags (I think they were 1.59), but were out of the original flavor. Do they only come in small bags? Where is a good place to buy these? Thanks so much!

Funny you should ask- I just purchased my first load of corn nuts to ship out this week.  I buy them from a bulk food store and they are 2.79 a pound...  .75 lbs = bag about the size of your hands in the "snowball position"    The little snack packs- that's a lot of money for a small amount of food... BUT- corn nuts- are a dense food compard to something like chips or popcorn-  I mean- corn is corn- so that little bag of crunch has the same calorie value probably as a whole popped bag of popcorn- just a different shape.

Also- the corn nuts I got are smaller sized kernels- like sweet corn.  I have seen some corn nuts made of giant honminy sized field corn kernels... yummy both- but very different type product.

They are a little hard on your teeth to crunch, but for regular young folks I don't think it's gonna be an issue.  They crack crisply and are salty.  Not for a sniper team tho.  too loud.

I once ate a corn nut that cost me about $1,000 (it broke my tooth and I had to get a cap....lol). It was good, but not worth the price I paid!

I have seen them in the same-sized bags as you see David's sunflower seeds, although now that you mention them it's been quite awhile since I've seen any at all, so I can't say that they are still available in that size.

I do see that they sell CornNuts on Amazon (with an instant savings discount available on some of the flavored varieties: http://www.amazon.com/b?ie=UTF8&node=359559011).

P.S. Just found this.... learn all you want to know about CornNuts here....lol! http://www.planters.com/cornnuts/index.aspx

They come in about 5 flavors and the guy love them. Try Wal Mart, KMart. I carry them at my store so try a convenience store.

    Sarah,

Are you saying that you send unsealed bulk food to our military units?  That is the #1 rule - no food that hasn't been commercially sealed.  All the officers that I have ever heard comment about it said that they would throw out anything that had any possibility of being contaminated or tampered with.  Please don't tempt them by offering them food that they have been told to avoid.  PLEASE reconsider!!!

I remember a few years ago one of my contacts was requesting them and I did all sorts of  searches, and could only find them on the internet with steep shipping.

I also was pretty unfamiliar with them so I did not puruse. I think they are more of a southern thing?

Hi! Just wanted to pop in and let you know that we have them everywhere out West. Like an earlier post, they are also at Walmart. (They closed our KMart here so can't help there.) They come in various flavors and are packaged various ways. Just Saturday, I saw a display at the grocery store and they were packed individually (i.e., peanuts, sunflower seeds). I'd be more than happy to grab some and send them out to you if you can't find them! Smile

Corn Nuts. Yummy.  I get mine at Winco, Target and Walmart has them too.  In the past I have gotten them at Costco and Sams Club.  I like the regular ones.  They also come in ranch, salsa, nacho chees, and one more flavor I can't think of.
Strange word desire, will make fool people of you.

I think Debt is right about them maybe being something found here in the west or south.  We have them but I sometimes have a hard time finding them.  I had a contact once whose group was addicted to the Ranch variety.  I had my mother helping me hunt for them.  She found them on vacation and she and my dad got addicted to them, too!  Personally, I'm not wild about them, but if the guys want them, I'm hunting them!

I have bought them before in a pack of 12 or so small bags in a variety of flavors.  I think they were only a couple bucks too.  I got them at WinCo at the time.

    Re: corn nuts.....

Found corn nuts at a truck stop in PA on the way to the car show in Syracuse this past weekend.  Never had them before so of course I had try them.

GREAT STUFF!!  Nothing but corn, corn oil and salt.  How much healthier can you get!  And crunchy crunchy crunchy.  My favorite kind of food.  Great snack to send this time of year too.  No fear of melting:)

Thought I;d resurrect this thread for anyone looking for a non-melting snack to send this time of year.

And now I;m on a search for corn nuts here on the east coast.  Hate to think I'll have to drive back to PA to get corn nuts for my August packages:)

I buy mine from Costco. They seem to have the best prices for this item. Variety pack of 24 individual 1.7 oz. bags in four different flavors for $8.69....36 cents a bag.

Amazon carries them too but it is a little more expensive and you only get one flavor. $20.?? for 2 packs of 18 individual 1.7 oz. bags...comes out to around 56 cents a bag.

They're durable little buggers and great for fillers for the small void spaces in my boxes.

Corn nuts used to be really popular when I was in school a gazillion years ago in the midwest. You could buy them at any grocery or convenience store. I have not had any for ages myself, but I think my son picked up some not that long ago at the regular grocery. I'll have to look for some next time I go shopping!

I did buy some Soynuts a while back at super walmart in the produce section that were pretty good too, similar concept to the corn nuts. I put them on salad for crunchies instead of croutons - but I was not sure if they would be anything that the troops would want just to snack on.

If you go to a place like Costco or Sam's Club, which are Bulk food stores, you can find them there in like packs of 20 for like $10 ish. So way cheaper then just buying them off the "regular" grocery store shelfs. Hope I helped!Big Smile
