    Video Messages

    Hello everyone,

Do you think it would be a good idea to send video messages to our troops?

I have recently received a dvd burner that hooks up to my cam corder.  So I was thinking I could go to the family members of our local military and let them record messages to their loved ones.   I thought this was a good idea, but a friend informed me that everyone probably has the same equipment, therefore they have already done this. Would like some input on this.

    Thanks

I don't understand her point... I mean- we all have telephones... and we like to use them to connect with friends and family...

I think sending a video SHOUT OUT from a thankful loving America sounds great!

    Hi Mags,

I was just skimming through some of the new messages from soldier contacts and one said that the video messages were "the best thing he had ever seen", and that they really gave the troops a boost, so, go for it!!  Smile  If you want I will send you a private message with this particular contact's name.

I thinnk it sounds like a good idea for those who can do it.  I mentioned on another post that I received a movie CD (Didn't even know what to do with it - thank God for teenage sons) from one of my soldiers and it was a wonderfully produced "Day in the life of" type thing showing soldiers doing everything from reading girlie magazines to blowing things up.  He had cleared it with his CO before he sent it.  I think I've viewed it a zillion times and never get tired of seeing it.  Although I have no idea what "my" soldier looks like because he was doing the filming and hasn't sent me a picture.  Good luck.  Sounds like a real pick-me-up for the guys and gals.

Mags, I think your friend lives on different planet than I do.  Hardly anyone I know has a camcorder and DVD burner.  It's important to remember that a lot of people join the military because of the opportunities for educational and economic advancement.   Many soldiers come from famlies with very limited incomes.

You have a wonderful idea. Don't let anybody rain on it!

Thank you everyone for your input.  I really appreciate it.   My husband said the same thing, just go for it. So I know what I am doing today.  Already charging the battery to the camcorder. Thanks again all

What a great idea! While you can bounce ideas off others, don't discount your own creativity.

I've had people tell me that soldiers told them that they had everything in Iraq and why were people sending things. Talk about seeing red. I told them about anysoldier but I think it goes in one ear and out the other sometimes. I think people want to justify not doing anything.

    Re: Video Messages

I called one of the mothers of our local soldiers today and explained what I wanted to do.   She was so excited. She wanted to do it today. But also wanted to have his sisters and his nephew there.   So after calling her daughters, she realized they were not available today.  So we have scheduled it for next sunday afternoon.

    Thanks everyone for your input.

We post little "Thank You" videos on You Tube for our Contacts. You can make one on almost any digital camera.

    They love it!

    Re: Video Messages

Perhaps you can help me.  I was looking at a kit with a digital camera, webcam, and camcorder designed for kids.  It was only $20.  Here's all I know:

  • Three functions - digital camera, PC web cam and video camera
  • Easy to use - just point & shoot
  • Stores up to 152 photos (resolution 352x258 pixels)
  • Picture editing software
  • Video Chat live with friends over the Internet
  • Records video clips with software
  • Is this product completely worthless?  Because I can't help but think that, even if it's not the greatest, it might be just fine for soldiers who are on smaller bases to connect with their families.

    Re: Video Messages

I thought I would update everyone.  It is going great.  I did not realize this would be in demand.  I have done 2 besides mine.  I have explained to everyone that I am not the best videographer, but they dont seem to mind.  So I decided if I was going to do this I had  better learn more.  So I have contacted the local college about my photography knowledge. Never thought I would go back to school at 48 years of age. Geeked But it is worth it.
