    Lemme See What You Pack!

Well, I come from a very, very small town (pop. 250ish) with a small PO, and my church youth group kids are supporting 6 troops through AnySoldier.  The first time I took our packages to the Post Office, our then-Postmaster, was so fascinated in this effort she wanted to see what kind of things we packaged up for them and asked if I would be kind enough to open a box for her just to see what sort of things we put in, even though the customs form clearly stated it.  Well, at first I was a little upset in this, but then I figured it was harmless, so I ripped one open and dumped it all out for her "inspection".  Id rather me doing it instead of her "sneaking" while just sitting there for the day before mail went out.  She was so impressed with the contents it made her cry!  I thought I shouldn't be doing this, but after I did I was happy I allowed her to see.  Afterward, she gave me $20 to help with our next care packages we sent.  She was transferred to another PO closer to her home after getting sick, but she always calls me to ask how everything is going with the care packages and since has been sending items through a contact of her own.  She was the most AWESOME postmaster ever.

What a 'show and tell' that must have been!  Converted on the spot AWESOME in deed.
I don't think I'd ever have to do that -- my post office only sells packing tape -- none available behind the counter to re-tape the box.  BUT I'd empty one in a heartbeat if I thought it would convert someone!
Just in case, maybe I should bring along a photo of some sample care packages and contents...and my roll of priority mail tape.

What's the deal with priority tape? My PO will let you use theirs if need me to tighten the seal, but makes you buy regular sealing tape.  Aren't there ANY regulations as to what's what? It sounds so petty.

    zoanna Hello!

The post office will send you tape for free if you order the free ( military ) care kit. Just call 1-800-610-8734 and when the recording answers select "global" then request care kit 04. You will receive boxes, tape and customs forms.

    Blessings, door

You can also do a custom order, instead of the Military Care Kit. I do a custom order so I can get only the boxes I know I'll use, along with tape, forms and address labels.

Plus: the stuff gets shipped to your door, usually in just a few days!
