    A nasty postal employee

    Hi All,

Yesterday I made my weekly trip into my normal post office lugging my 2 boxes which were very light (9 pounds and 11 pounds) in comparison with some others I have sent. Before I even sat it on the counter, the woman postal clerk told me I need to start coming later in the day, not to come in the mornings anymore. I asked why and she said because NORMALLY I have more than 2 packages. I said yes I do but this is a light trip all the while trying to keep things light because two hot heads lead to trouble. She also stated that my packages are way too heavy. That it takes 2 to 3 of them to lift my packages I bring inIndifferent. Now mind you, I have sent some packages that were 50 pounds BUT they were mailed from the big main post office which has about 80 employees and truck dollies etc. Not mailed at that post office. So I am very considerate when mailing my heavier packages it's not like I go and expect them to lift alot of heavy boxes at all I go out of my way to the main branch to mail the heavier ones as there are alot more employees and dollies available. I lift them all the time and believe me  MOST are NOT in excess of 20 pounds,I just looked at all my receipts and the heaviest box I have ever sent from that post office was 24 pounds.so she is going on about how heavy my packages are all the time and how it takes a crew and a half to lift them, which is total nonsense, and she even stated that the driver who takes the packages to the main post office was complaining. Then she proceeded to make the comment " I don't know why you do this "poop" ( edited for the post but she said the "s" word) anyway the government takes care of them and you don't even know them you just waste your money". I said what did you sayAngry? And she repeated it again!!!! All the while the post office is filling up with people and she is standing there going on and on about an 11 pound package and how dumb it is for me to support these deployed men, and telling everyone in line about all the packages I send and how excruciatingly heavy they are and that I do it 2 or more times a week, for people I don't even know.  And how they ( the postal workers) HAVE to send them because the post office says they do.Talk about making some one real uncomfortable, that she did to me! I just didn't even have the energy to defend myselfTongue Tied I have been going there with packages and letters for years and over the past month I notice when I come in she is very nasty with looks and little comments but today was just enough. The other guy that works up front is a veteran so he supports all I do and thinks it's great and he asked me how I got involved and things and we talk about AS all the time when I go in, but he didn't say a word when she was going on and on today. I just couldn't believe her. This happened at the Edgewater Branch of the Cleveland Post Office on W. 117th st. Her name is Beverly. So if anyone here is from Cleveland don't go there because I sure won't go back there! It is going to be a pain to go out of my way to other post offices, but it's better than me having to feel bad or ashamed when I go in there wondering what she is going to say next. I cannot avoid her she is ALWAYS there as I am limited to Mon and Tues shipping(my schedule) and even in the past if she is not taking care of me she is popping off at the beak in the background.

I always thought the post office was there to send the mail and that packages can be UP TO 70 pounds. I didn't think a 9 and 11 pound package would warrant all that humiliation and goings on! And I surely don't send packages that are that heavy from there. Sorry just had to tell that as I thought it was so unwarranted and belittling towards me on her part.

Hmmm...wonder how she would like to mail a 70 pound package since she HAS to mail it cause the post office says they HAVE toWink

    Diana,

    Why don't you report her?

    1.  It is none of her business why you are mailing packages.  As long as you follow postal regs, she should not say anything to you other than, "How may I help you today?"

    2.  It is her job to take care of you when you come into that U.S. post office, it doesn't say Beverly's post office and she doesn't get to pick and choose the packages that she thinks should be mailed.

    3.  Try your hardest to get a few 70# packages to mail in one day and go in there anytime that is convenient for you.  You are the customer.  Ignore what she says to you and just go about your business.  Maybe she will eventually just shut up.  Why should you have to go out of your way to mail packages.  They put the post offices in different locations to help all of us.

It takes all kinds to make the world go around.  She is just making it drag so all the rest of us have to work harder to make up for her.  I am sorry that you had to endure something like this when you are doing so much good for deserving American heroes.  Hang in there!!

    Hi Diana,

Sorry that you had such an awful experience.  I have never heard of anything remotely like this.  If it was an isolated incident with this employee, I would try to ignore it, since she may have been having a really bad day.  However, this is obviously a pattern and needs to be addressed.  I would definitely report the woman to the local post master.  I suspect that he will be less than pleased with her remarks (if you're really lucky, he may be a vet).  Her fellow postal clerk may be grateful, since I imagine he is not happy with her attitude either.  Personally, I would have turned and "talked to the audience" of customers waiting behind me.  I would have called on their patriotic spirit, emphasizing that there are servicepeople who are DYING or MAIMED for us and that I am proud to do whatever I can to thank them for their efforts.  And that sending some care packages is very little compared to their sacrifices.  I try to time my visits (and let others ahead of me at times) to minimze the wait for others, but sometimes a line develops.  Often I will strike up a conversation with those behind me and explain what the packages are for and almost always everyone says not to worry about the wait.  That said, not everyone is comfortable doing this and you should not have to.  That's why reporting the clerk should be considered as an option.  As for sending packages...you GO girl!!  You know in your heart and soul that you are doing something honorable.  Most postal employees are wonderful and to heck with any mean ones.

I'm seeing red over this one.  I'm so sorry you had to put up with this woman's abuse.  This woman MUST be reported to her supervisors.  She owes you an apology at the very least.  Angry

I can understand your frustration and perhaps a wish to avoid confrontation but must agree that your nasty postal maven needs reported. I've had my postal folks suggest I time my visits for 1pm, only because that's a slow time and they thought I'd appreciate knowing when there wasn't a line, but never a hint that I wasn't welcome anytime. I know our post offices track how much mail goes through their station, they have no desire to reduce the volume! So your complaint, and honest estimate of post office use, should hold weight. Huggs to you.

    Diana,

Like everyone else said REPORT HER!   It may not be the first time she has been reported and she has no right treating you that way.

    Hi All,

Well Lisa's lil man kicking dust at the bottom of her post scared me enough to call the post officeSurprise. Seriously, I didn't want to do it as everyone needs a job but she really upset me and I just got off the phone with the complaint department who typed it all up and sent it to the " proper person". We shall see what happens. Oh and incidently, Beverly is the supervisor for that branchIndifferent, isn't that a knock out! Thanks for the advice and the little push I needed to do what my original thought was to do in the first place.

    Re: A nasty postal employee

The US Postal system does not exist to do us a FAVOR.  We don't have to be liked by them for them to HAVE to do their JOB. We don't need their APPROVAL... and we don't have to make our packages LIGHTWEIGHT for them... the reason why the post office has SCALES is because their service is dependant on weight so that is simply a matter cost to the customer not a matter of inconviencing the clerk!!  This is the MOST absurd and obscene thing I have ever heard and if this lady, a supervisor no less, has so little understanding of the US postal system SHE SHOULD LOSE HER JOB... what's next?  Little Billy already got a present from his mother and father, so grandma- don't BOTHER US with sending him a birthday card- it's annoying to us? Or... That business charges too much for their services anyweay- so I don't want to mail your bill to them because they don't deserve it!??

Since when was the postal system something that was operating on the opinion of their clerk!?

I am glad you filed a report and I hope they do fire her- I'm NOT KIDDING!

    Diana,

I wouldn't try to avoid her and her snippy, nasty comments!!!  I would talk to her all syrupy and ask how my favorite ogre is today, and if she ever got her hormones regulated.  You know - coals of fire?  If need be, keep reporting her until they remove her and protect the rest of the population from her.  You would be doing another service.

She is really unprofessional. it's none of her business what you send and to whom you send it to. as long as you are within the USPS guidelines, then she has to send it.

sounds like she is unhappy with herself and her job and you know the saying "Misery wants company."

I hope that branch removes her from dealing with the public. Her behavior is unacceptable.

Good for you for reporting this incident; her behavior is absolutely intolerable on so many levels! If you didn't report it at the level above her (i.e., to her supervisor or above), I would be sure to do that. You may also want to call it in at 1--ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) if you haven't already.

I with Gran I be d***** if I would go out of my way because of her. I would kill her with kindness. She wants you to leave. If she has said something to you believe me she has to other. That is her job and believe me they get paid well to do it. She thinks becaues she is the supervisor that nothing would be said. She need to be brought down to a normal way of thinking.  It is none of her business when, what, or to whom you mail. PLEASE let us know what comes of this. It makes me what to pay her a visit and shake her.
