Re: Are there any TEXAS people Out here??
Hey all! My name is Tammy, I'm from Texas... well, at least I've been living here for quite a few years. I was born and raised in Connecticut. My father is a retired Marine and I have a uncle and cousin in the Air Force and another cousin in the Army. I love this site! I just sent out about 6 boxes to different units. I'm hoping they all get it (unopened) after going through and reading the site, I was a bit concerned about the possibility of items being stolen out of the boxes... I'm also curious as to how long it will actually take to get to them since this is my 1st few boxes that I've sent... Tammy

I'm from Minnesota, but I did go to art school in Dallas for 2 years in the early 90s. Does that count? LOL

Re: Are there any TEXAS people Out here??
Hola, SGT Carlos!
YES, there are Texans out here. I live in the DFW metroplex and have been a support junkie only since January '07. Before that, I was sending stuff to a friend's daughter and her unit in Iraq. When they came home, I then tried out some other support websites with mixed results. I can't remember who told me about anysoldier.com but it is by far the best. And Marty wasn't exaggerating, it IS addicitive and sometimes I do cry but sometimes I also laugh out loud.
I mail 4 to 8 boxes of stuff every week I've become best friends with the guys at the PO. Three of them are Vietnam vets and they always say they wish there had been some program like this back then. I have some contacts I support regularly and also do some one-time donations. I have sent everything from tampons to toys, halogen fog lights to power tools, and of course lots of chewing gum, candy, and snacks. I hear back from about half of my soldiers/sailors/marines and have become regular correspondents with a couple of them. This program is wonderful and very rewarding. As long as I have an income, I will keep helping our men and women in uniform through anysoldier.com.
With thanks to you for YOUR service to America and with all my best wishes,
Lilly, in north Texas

Do we love this guy or what??
ProudSoldier, welcome to your new NJ family! C'mon up for a visit any time, c'mon up to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall! This Patriot is so thankful for YOU! You are welcome to put your feet under my table any day!
Couldn't pick a finer brother/son/nephew/uncle!
(I always read your posts, but alas, was not a direct supporter for you.)

Re: Are there any TEXAS people Out here??
Carlos- I would like to share some lyrics to one of my favorite songs by one of my favorite singers... I know I am not from Texas either, so it probably does not hold as much water when I say it as when he does... but I think you'll like this song. If you are going to stay in Texas any amount of time I think you should get some of his CDS and get to a show if you ever can!

Re: Are there any TEXAS people Out here??
Good evening,
Yes! Another Texan weighing in...from the DFW area! I found AnySoldier last November while searching for something else...don't remember what...but I've been an "addict" ever since...thanks Marty and crew! My dining room is now the AnySoldier store...finally other like-minded people who understand. At first, my husband (and others) thought I had lost my mind...obsessive, he said. LOL He is now onboard with the idea and goes with me to shop for Our Soldiers and Our Marines...in fact, he wanted to go to Tuesday Morning last Monday to buy a Colibri lighter since he has decided we will send c-gars to Our Marines. I love it!! May have to get advice on that one from our forum expert. We've sent just over 75 boxes to date...and ProudSoldier, one of our contacts is a 1SGT from Ft. Hood! He's on R&R now...should hear from him by e-mail again soon. I sent more boxes to his guys a week ago...I promised to take care of them while he was gone. And yes, I know all about the "happy dance" at the mail box when you see "free mail"...and happy day when you get e-mail from one of your contacts...unless he's telling you about the upcoming memorial(s) for the Fallen...then you also feel his pain. Two weeks ago we had 4 contacts..until we received snail mail from a LCpl who had received stuff from some of our boxes. Our contact had given him our address, and we received the most heartfelt letter of thanks...well, guess what? Two days later....two boxes heading his way to Iraq...now he's part of our big extended family! My Mom, who lives with us, shops for the boxes and helps with postage, too. My sister in OK calls me every few weeks to come pick up "supplies for our guys" (girls, too).
ProudSoldier, don't worry...we'll support you when you deploy. Thanks for your service to all of us; we'll be honored to send you and your fellow Soldiers a "Taste of Texas".

Hello Proudsoldier,
Former Texas resident dropping in here. Still have family there though. Up around Nacogdoches. Not quite the same as what you were asking for, but I wanted to stop in and say hello.

Re: Are there any TEXAS people Out here??
My husband and I aren't from Texas (Wisconsin) but our two adopted sons were born in Killeen - home of Fort Hood. Perhaps they are the sons of former soldiers. They are both African American and want to see Texas some day. They are now 19 and 21. How time flies. I can still remember the August day we picked up Joey. He was 6 weeks old. We left Wisconsin at 70 degrees and hit Austin when it was 104 degrees. We almost froze on the way back from the change in temperatures. Loved what we saw of Texas though.

Re: Are there any TEXAS people Out here??
Howdy folks! I'm from Sugar Land, TX (tiny dot of a city next to the big size Houston). We lived in Houston for 6 years then moved to Sugar Land and have been here ever since. There's a two way street in front of our neighborhood, one side is Sugar Land and the other is Houston. I guess when we move, we don't move very far . People drive like crazy in Texas, they said that if you can drive in Texas, then you can drive anywhere. My cousin who was from Alaska came down to live with us for a year and he asked why do people here drive like the devil is after them. Alas, 3 months later, he drives like a true Texan. I know that we have Fort Hood and Fort Bliss, but I never really know their exact location. I do know there's an Air Force Base in San Antonio somewhere or close to it because I see a bunch of airmen and sometimes sailors wondering around the Riverwalk attraction with the tourists. I heard about AnySoldier.com from the radio while I was sitting through rush hour one day in February. This site rocks!
