    Re: In The News Today

I did not know that you could be a PGR member if you did not have a motorcycle!  I will be signing up for that.

I live in a town, just north of Cincinnati, called Hamilton.  About a year ago or so...(give or take) these "church goers" showed up in our town to protest at a local soldiers funeral.  They were out full force from what I hear.  Our Sheriff, Rick Jones, was attending the funeral (he does for all the fallen military in our town)...as soon as he caught on, he radioed in for some men and asked them to leave.  When they started waving their protest voucher (or whatever they are called) in front of his face, he said "You can sue me if you want but you will not disrespect this soldier and his family" and had them POLICE ESCORTED out of our town.  They followed the "church goers" all the way to the county limit.

Not a very exciting story but one I'll never forget.  I vote for the Sheriff every time he is up for re-elect now.  He's done wonderful things for our county and totally supports the men and women in the military!

I didn't know this, either! I'll have to check out the group in my area as well. I've read some of the postings/stories on their website before, and they are really a dedicated, caring group. (Much like Anysoldier! Smile)

Thanks for the first-hand info, Lisajan and Agnieszka!

I'm in awe of him too believe it or not.  I cried when I heard that story.  I really get emotional when I hear about people going out of their way to defend and respect those who defend us.  My Uncle is very good friends with the Sheriff and is going to set up for all of us to have lunch someday soon!  I can't wait to talk to him and don't think I won't be telling him ALL about AnySoldier and trying to get him involved!  Geeked

He sounds like someone you want to keep for sure.  I thought it was a very nice story, glad you shared it.

    Susan,

If you do get to meet the Sheriff, please thank him for all of us. He'll never understand how much complete strangers appreciate what he did!!

Darn it...could you give him a hug from me? Sheriff's need to feel appreciated, too!!!

    Hey Reta,

I'm hugging him from all of us!!  I'll probably cry too when I meet him.  I get all emotional about that stuff and it comes out my eyes!!  My Uncle seems to think when he finds out what I'm doing to support the troops (He doesn't know about AnySoldier YET!!) that he'll want to help out.  So, before I meet him, I'm going to order some of those AnySoldier business card thingee's and give him a whole bunch.  I'm trying not to get my hopes up about it but I do REALLY REALLY want to meet him and thank him from all of us!  Big Smile

    Hey Guys,

This is from the article in the Baltimore Sun Paper today.  I just don't know what to say, it's so sad.

"Fred W. Phelps Sr., the head of the church, has vowed to appeal the decision, and his group's Web site showed a list of proposed funeral visits - most of them in Kansas - yesterday."
