    Large Group Needs Help

Please take a look at 1st Sgt John C. Lightle's post. This is a large group and he has soldiers that never get anything. Everyone that can, please join me in helping these guys and girls. Let's see if we can make sure that everyone gets something soon considering it is the holiday season.

    Thanks,

    Karen

He was on my list as a "possible" after his first post, but I didn't see that he posted again. I will get a few things to him ASAP.

(If you could see my many lists of "possibles" you'd laugh, although I suspect many of you have the same sort of lists. I just read so many of the posts and think "Oh, I should send them something!" So I write down their name, and every once in awhile go back through one of the lists and see their status. What's sad is how many of them have dropped to "old contacts" and then I have to wonder if maybe they didn't get any/enough support... Anyway, I digress...)

    Thanks for the notice!!!

    Jenifer

    Jenifer,

Yes, me, too.  That possible list just goes on and on!!  And when someone says they have 200plus in their group, I do shy away from that.  Is no one else in their group signed up?  I don't want to overlook them when they need help, so those are the ones I try to send letters to or the thinking of you cards and thank you cards, maybe at least a game or a DVD that more than one can enjoy and pass on or a bunch watch together.

For the life of me I cannot imagine someone, anyone, not getting any mail from home.  That is just a knife in my heart.  So with that thought, I need to go write some letters!!

I noticed that one too and I'm glad you posted it here.

It's hard to know what to do -- would 1-2 gift bags or stockings be helpful? It's hard to know what to do for the large groups.

    Pam,

My philosophy is that even one small gift to a group of 200 is one more gift that one soldier would not have otherwise received. And since there are multiple people sending to the contacts, we don't have to worry about getting something to everyone. That's one of the great things about AnySoldier!

As someone had as their signature (don't remember who?), something along the lines of this: I am only one person. I can't do everything, but I can do something. (Whoever had this as their signature line, feel free to correct me and tell us who said it!)

...and a gift to one soldier is a gift to the entire unit.  They really are a band of brothers; when a soldier who doesn't get any mail from home receives even one small package, it lifts everyone's spirits, not just his.

    RGG,

Thanks! I really do like that quote.

    Free,

SO true! A good point that I sometimes forget, when I'm trying so hard to send the "perfect box" containing just the right thing. It really is about the support, and not the stuff! (To quote Marty.)

Re: Large Support Group - few requests

MSG Mark Miezin is a contact we just picked up last week, so I haven't heard anything from them directly, but they first enrolled Aug. 14, and only have 30 contacts, and they serve hundreds of convoy troops every week. They ask for snacks, coffee, instant food and hygiene items to furnish them as they travel.

Gran, I will check them out and see what I can do. I just mailed 14 boxes this week so am a bit tight on funds. I do have several hygiene items that could fill a box though :) Karen
