Re: First mission with the PGR

Who knew Angels wore leather...I saw this line on the Patriot Guard Riders forum and it is so true. I went on my first official mission last night. I had the honor of standing in flag line for a young soldier killed a year ago to the day. It was so cold here but we had a good turn out. We all really wanted to be there to celebrate this heros life and to support his mom and family. I can't really explain what it feels like to be a part of this group. Last night was very special and they are fastly becoming a part of my family.

    Hey Marty,

In Georgia they have what are called Mentors along with the Ride Captains and Assistant State Captain and State Captain.  The mentors help the newbies though the process of becoming a member and attending missions.  It is a VERYeasy process.   And guess who was just honored with the request to be a Mentor.  Me!  I am now part of the Georgia Mentor Team of the Patriot Guard Riders.  So anybody with any questions please feel free to email me. lisajan@bellsouth.net

Also, I let my State Captain Gene Altman know that you support the PGR with your positive posts and he is most grateful, because like AS we can use all the wonderful people who want to support our troops that we can get.

Ashleigh did join and she will be going on her first mission on Sunday with us.

Thank you so much for YOUR support of the PGR.

    Do I support the PGR?

    Hey Ashley,

I take it those girls weren't at your "very cold" mission the other day??? Just kidding... Wink

Seriously, though: CONGRATS on your first PGR mission. It sounds like a great organization.

Re: First mission with the PGR

I had thought to write about my first mission that happened this weekend.I went as a repesentitive of another "Heavenly" group but found myself holding a flag.I think I was the only one  not in leather.I was made to feel welcome. It started on Sunday when the soldiers body was escorted from the airport. Then on Monday he was laid to rest.Very cold here in KC but I wouldn't have missed the chance to participate in such  an event.Family members thanked us as they went to the grave and I did tear up then..I stood next to a Mom who lost her son last August. She had just joined up for him.She held up rather well & I hugged her and told her I was proud of her.She said the PGR was at his funeral too. If anyone has a chance to bear a flag for a fallen Hero, then do so.  Jeepgirl

No worries, I was one of the only ones not in leather the other day tooSmile I wore heels but quickly changed into boots because my toes were FREEZING. Thank you for sharing this and thank you for going. I teared up quite a bit during the mission Sunday, it's tough but worth it to support the family.

Just got back from a mission this morning for a Marine who was killed in Iraq. We met at the airport to be there for his family, we held a flag line then escorted the family and his casket to the funeral home.  The LEOs were wonderful closing down the highway so we could pass, they all stood at attention for a final salute for this fallen Marine.  It is going to be a long weekend but I would not have it any other way.  These families need to know we care and though it breaks my heart, I will be there for this Marine and his family this weekend with my left hand holding my flag and my right hand over my heart because it is the right thing to do......

Susan is getting to go on a feel good mission that is going to be real neat and Jeepgirl good for you!

Oh man....my heart just sank reading that.  How horrible.  It's such an honor to be present to those things I'm sure.  My heart is with his family as well as my thoughts and prayers.

The hardest part of being in the PGR is not being able to go to every mission. I so wish I could of gone today. Work makes it so tough, especially with two jobsSad Lisa, you and your husband are awesome. And Susan, I will see you for the mission in Febuary here. Big Smile

Re: First mission with the PGR

    Marty,

I joined the PGR before the membership enrollment hit 50,000 and now there are well over 125,000!  For those folks who want to do a little more "hands on" support, this is one terrific group.  I have attended two welcome home celebrations and (unfortunately) five funerals.  The feeling at a welcome home reception is elation and happiness. The feeling at the funerals has always been sad, but every time the families of the departed soldier/sailor/marine/airman have told us how much it meant to them to have us there and how much their son/daughter would have been proud to have us stand in their honor.  It reminds me that supporting the military also means supporting their families. This is an ongoing support organization that supports all veterans, including WWII, Korea, VietNam and Persian Gulf.

I encourage everyone to go to the PGR website (www.PGR.org) and read about the organization, missions and activities. As someone else in this thread said, you don't have to ride a motorcycle, you just have to be someone who wishes to honor our troops. The PGR "Standing for Those who stood for US".

     Peace,

    Cara

Ok Marty, I did.  Within 24 hours I've been notified of a mission and its local with the next week.  Now I'm nervous as a cat on a hot tin roof.  Joyce
