Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan
I'll chime in here! I never posted in the other thread, but I read it like a... well, like a junkie checking in several times a day for news on our guys.
I can understand why the topic makes more sense here, I'm down with that! Not that it was doing harm in the other forum, but keeping the board neat and organized can only be a good thing! I'll keep checking the old thread until it dies out, but I hope for a smooth happy transition over to this new home!
On that note, I noticed one of the guys asked for heaters they can hang up??? Has anyone found one of those?

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan
If you scroll down on the opening page it gives the temps in some areas of Iraq, and one in Afgh. The KOP is probably colder because of the altitude. There's SO MUCH info on this site, it's amazing they can keep up with it all.

Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - Ltwgt Sleeping Bags
I found an ad in Big 5 this weekend for a Suisse Sport 3-LB "Alpine" Mummy Bag for $27. It is has a 5° comfort rating and is "machine washable"! I don't know if this is adequate or not since it seems that most bags are around $175. Anyway if anyone is near a store and is interested in sending you might want to check it out.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - HOYT
Has anyone heard from Chris. Hoyt? The last post I noticed on his page was Oct. 6. We sent 3 packages to him in Oct. and never heard from him, so he is about to be dropped.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan
Thanks for the link to the article! I get the magazine but don't have my January yet.
I haven't heard from any of my contacts in a while either. I'm guessing it's across the board right now. When I search the post in the address search, it doesn't look like anyone is really updating but some at the top who may have more internet access?
I'll make you a deal though, if I hear from one, I'll let you know right away! I think we're all a little concerned and even though we know why, I take a little breath when one of you lets us know you've gotten an email too!

Thanks for the link Jennifer, it's like the special on TV, very hard to look at but something we need to see to understand a little better what they are going thru. The pictures are heartbreakers, they look so exhausted, totally spent and such haunted eyes. I probably won't sleep tonight thinking about them and wishing I could make it all better somehow. This must be so tough for their families and loved ones to see, my heart really goes out to them.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan
Michael Moad and Lt. Emerson both posted today, it was great to see their posts. Michael suggested we send only from his list as they have no room for storage and can't eat it all up, plus they can't pack it all back up to their camp.
Sure wish we were able to communicate more with them, I keep trying to find out more info but so far no luck, sure don't want to send things that will be a burden to them, plus a waste of time/money on my part.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan
Ugh... he's gone. My first contact in the KOP, Samuel Fuller, has dropped. I'm so bummed. I know that a) they are in the middle of nowhere getting shot at all the time, and lots of the contacts have been having trouble sending in updates lately thus getting the 50-day warning, and b) they have been having some trouble getting their mail... I just hope it's "a" that has kept him from posting, not that he hasn't gotten anything that's been sent and thinks they've been forgotten. And then there's that age-old nagging question... I hope he's healthy and safe. Oy. It's tough being a junkie, our powers are so limited.

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan
Hello everyone, the past few weeks that have been updating the buildings. Making them more "winter proof" with actual wood sides rather than rocks and sand. Along with this they have been updating the communications room. Internet has been sparse and the phone lines have been changed around. SOOOOO the guys have to apparently make new accts now or something like that. Didn't ask for too many details. So the guys are all doing well just preparing for winter and ready for the communications systems to be up and running back to normal again, well as normal as it can be.
Heaters are always needed. I believe most of them have enough blankets now from what I've been told. Gloves, ones that aren't too thick on the trigger finger. Balaclavas (or however you spell it), thermal underwear and anything to stay warm are usually all put to good use also. They are issued such items yet not being able to change and wash them that often they love getting new ones (already washed) that they can switch out with.
Hope that this helps you all a bit.
Love to you and to all of yours, Ang
