Hey, did anyone notice there's a new contact in the KOP who posted last week?  Well, I know at least 25 of you have Wink but he's got 25 guys, so I'm sure he could use the support (eta: He's Gary Cody).  I was so happy to see a new contact, I take that as great news that the guys who have fallen off have *probably* done so because they have more than they need/can store right now, not because they can't get an update in but are still in need... we can't know for sure, but at least there's a sign of hope.   It seems like God answered my prayers for a new contact!

    Hi KristenF,

I thought his name sounded vaguely familiar, and now I see why: It's Cody R. Gary. He was signed up last summer and requested Copenhagen, and when I finally had some to send he had gone to old contacts.

    Thanks for the heads up!

Another new one from the 173rd is  1Lt Van Doan   1/13  And Nathan Thomas  1/13

I think some new guys are rotating in a few at a time maybe.

duh... I'm SO dyslexic!  I *think* Cody Gary in my head, but I keep writing Gary Cody (in my binder, on lists, etc... ) what is wrong with me?  It would help me if his last name wasn't also a first name... LOL

Here's a question... is every member of the 173rd in the KOP?  Are there guys in the KOP that don't have "Korengal Outpost" as part of their address?  Just curious, tia!

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - Eric Ortegren's Birthday!

Hello all!  I am sorry I am so absent lately.  It's been crazy but I have been keeping up with everything through email updates.  Please don't think I've forgotten you.  Geeked

Anyways, I have some news.  With the permission of Eric's family, I am able to tell you that Eric's birthday is coming up on March 25th.  This year will be a big year for him as he's in Afghanistan and will be turning 30!!!  His mom really wants to try to make it a cool birthday for him (of course she would, she's his mom! Big Smile) despite where he is and what not.

I think she's mostly looking for ideas on what to send but I did ask if I could get you guys involved and she said YES!

So, let the ideas roll in.  I'll gladly go back to her with anything you guys say and maybe we can all do something for him as well.

    Hey Fellow Junkies,

I've been wanting to get in on supporting the KOP but the contacts are difficult to keep up with (I don't  mean that in a bad way).  It seems it would be better for me to get involved when you guys organize something here on the forums instead.  Count me in please!  And I'll contribute what I can.

They are difficult to keep up with since there are several of them and we all seem to have our one main contact that we keep up with and talk about - however, we are all supporting ALL of them at the KOP in some way.  Does that make sense?  Smile

I think this forum for the KOP originally started to get people organized and involved so I am glad that you are here with us!  I know that the guys at the KOP really appreciate your support.

I think all Diana (Eric's mom) is looking for right now is ideas but I know for a fact, she would love to have us send items as well.  So, any ideas you may have Anna would be fantastic!

Here is a copy of Diana's email so you all can see what she said:

I asked Eric's cousin what he thought it was and he said:

"those are the guys that jump out of the planes in Vegas dressed up as Elvis. I think Eric's jump group did that one year and they took pictures of it.. "

    Hope that helps!

Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan - Eric Ortegren's Birthday!

Oh my word... I was going to try to suggest a way to send over hostess cupcakes (or some other form of cake that has a shelflife long enough to stand the trip) or easybake ovens or something so he can share a more "traditional" birthday treat, but I think the Flying Elvis thing is way over my head. LOL

Whoever figures out whatever it's going to be, count me in!  Is there any way we could set something up so he could see the baby?  Do they have DVD's on his post?  (eta, meaning does someone have a portable dvd player or laptop that plays dvds-lots have them, but I don't want to assume...) If not, maybe we could chip in for that and his wife could send a dvd?  If they already have a player then I'm sure they're already doing that....
