    Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan

    Hi Kristen,

The paint was not ordered yet as I have been waiting for Justin to let me know the dimensions of the pool.  They are scheduled to leave (go back to Italy) in August, yet he hasn't replied to emails nor has he posted on AS.  So as of now, I'm in the dark.  I've no idea if his address (the one I have yet) is still good for him or not.  While I'm sure he's okay, I just don't know for sure where he is.  Crying  Once I hear from him, or someone who has heard from him as to his current address and the size of the pool, we'll know how much paint we need and where to have it sent.  At that time I planned to contact the store Tony found, set up an order with an order number and post that info. here so people could send $$ right to the store to pay for the paint.

If someone (anyone) has a better idea of how to do this, I'm all ears.  I'm just too tapped out to spring for the cost of much any more.  I can spring for a can of paint, I think...but not much more than that.

    Hugs,

I'm a little pool stupid as well, BUT I have been seeing some good sized above ground pools on sale for a few hundred dollars and it includes the filter, etc.  I think even a supply of chemicals.  Haven't a clue how much it would be to ship, also don't know if any of you know what this project is projected to cost to be able to compare.  I've been out of the loop for a cpl months and will be leaving again near the end of May but I'd be willing to help out too.

    Hi Brit,

Since you seem to hear from Justin more often, would you be willing to 'take over' the coordination of this event?

    Operation AfghaniSwim Update .....

Have another pump/filter combo (cartridge type) spotted on eBay auction ends today so by this afternoon I will know.

The one thing that makes this one good is that it is located on the east coast close to Kristen & she has volunteered to pick it up if I can get it.

    Cross your fingers all!!

Well poooooooooo we are still pump/filterless

I went home to use the PC since eBay is blocked here @ the office.

The current bid was $90 so I thought a bid of $138 outa cinche the deal ... WRONG!!

Silly thing went for $140, I have no idea what amount it would have taken to out-bid the other bidder.

.... so long story short I'm still lookin Wink

Thanks for the update, Sharon!  We'll figure this thing out.  I guess all we need at this point are the dimensions of the pool?  I wonder if the answer is to ask Justin to forward your email (Sharon's or Brit's) to someone he knows is near the pool?  ...and can measure it in their spare time, between fighting the enemy and staying alive? Stick out tongue  This is so tricky, wanting SO MUCH to do this for them so they have this outlet for blowing off steam and staying cool, yet not wanting to bug the pants off them to get it done...

All I can say, is have faith-we'll get the right info, find the right pump, order the right paint, and get everything sent over, exactly when we're supposed to.

(Tony, I'm out of town from Thurs-Sun 5/1-4, so whatever you find anywhere near me, just go for it!  I might be able to check in, but if I can't, don't let that stop you!!!!)

    Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan

    Hi Kristen,

You're so right.  Justin will let me know the dimensions as soon as he gets there.  Once we know that, I can contact the paint place Tony found & ask how much paint it will take to cover X square feet, plus the cost, shipping fees, & if he can't tint it blue LOL.

If we manage that, shipping some SHOCK (can be bought at Walmart & other discount stores) shouldn't be too much of a hassle.  And I'm sure when the time is right, the proper filter will 'fall into our laps'.

    Hugs,

    Sharon

    Re: Korengal Outpost, Afghanistan

Hi, I am new to this website so not sure how or where to post this but my husband has recently been inserted as an ETT to FOB Vegas in Korengal.  He is serving with 2 marines, several of the 173rd guys, and some ANA in their very small firebase.  He's gotten some conflicting info about the mailing address and everything we have sent to him has been returned to us.  Can someone please tell me what the working address is?  I have: ETT 5-3/201 TF Bayonet, Korengal Outpost/FOB Vegas, APO AE 09354.  Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated!  He's gone his entire first month without a single piece of mail and he is all alone - i.e., not with his unit, so all the guys there are new to him.

     Thanks very much!!

Oh, Jenna... {{HUGS}}  How upsetting!!!!!  I think the good news is, based on all we know about our guys in the KOP, your brave husband is in good company.  Unfortunately, I'm good for nothing with information (all of my addresses are at home right now) but some of the gals in this forum are total experts in everything KOP!  Let me see who I can PM, and let me search addresses and posts for someone at Vegas (since I can't think off the top of my head, heaven forbid I can perform under pressure!) and I'm sure someone will be able to verify Vegas' address.

And, thank you to your husband, for his service, and to you, for your sacrifice!

Well, crud.  The search for "vegas" in an address or post in Afghanistan came up empty.  (We only have 4 contacts left in the KOP???)  Eric Ortegren was on Vegas, iirc, if anyone still has his address perhaps they could help Jenna compare?  I have Cody Gary's at home, I don't remember if he's at Vegas (he's about to drop too... man! :( ) but I'll check later, and if Jenifer chimes in she might have it on hand.

    We'll keep working on it!!!!

    Hi Jenna,

Are you sure the 5-3/201 shouldn't be 2-503rd? That's the 173rd airborne 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry. That's how their address is listed.

I'm sending you a private message. Look by your name on the top of the page and you will find the word "index", click on it for your message.

    All my best,
