    Delivery times

    Hi Ya'll!!!

I just had to share this with you...I talked with my son yesterday. Ok, instant messaged but that's perfectly wonderful when he's in Iraq...I'd be thrilled to hear from him by carrier pigeon.

ANYWAY...the reason I wanted to tell you this was because he had received a box from his grandmother. That's nothing new but I was trying to remember when she had mailed it to check on "mail times" these days. I discovered when she mailed the package...THAT PACKAGE HAD ARRIVED IN SIX DAYS!!! No, not kidding. I couldn't believe it!! With all the mail hitting that area right now, I thought that was amazing. Actually it's amazing at any time. It takes that long for mail to get from Tennessee to Texas...

    Just wanted to share!!!

Oh, and Nathan says Merry Christmas to you all and thanks for your continued support of our military personnel!!

    Merry Christmas from me, too!!!

    Reta

I feel like such an idiot.  I mailed all my Christmas packages before Thanksgiving.

Don't feel like that!!! EVER!!! This was definitely an anomaly...and think how much longer your recipients have already been able to enjoy their loot!!

    Re: Delivery times

    JoCee,

I totally agree with RGG.  Don't feel that way.  I sent packages both priority and parcel post right about a week after the November cut off date for parcel post packages and they got there in about 10 days, (about the same time it has usually taken for priority), but the packages I sent priority about the first week of Dec. took much longer.  There are packages I sent elsewhere the same week (one was and FRB and one was a bigger one) the FRB arrived within 9 days, but as of the middle of this week, the larger package still hasn't arrived.  So its a good thing that that the majority of the packages that were larger went out before Dec. since packages bigger than the FRBs seem to be taking longer now to get where they are going in some areas.

RGG is so right about the soldiers getting to enjoy "their loot" much longer.  Maybe somewhere down the road when things might be going rough, they will use whatever you sent and will remember that you sent it to them for Christmas because you care about them and they are important to you.  Maybe give them another smile at a time when they really need one just remembering that.  I was absolutely tickled to hear that a boot & glove dryer I'd sent for Christmas was already needed and had been put to use.  I didn't tell him, but that was a Christmas gift to me.......knowing that he liked what he got, it was needed, and  especially knowing that even if in a small way, its making things a little more comfortable for him.  What better gift can a "Mom" receive than that??  (Besides having him home safe and  sound)

I think I've read where some contacts still have some gifts they have saved and put under trees for Christmas.  Maybe your soldiers might have done that too?

    Hugs,

    G.I.O.BARBIE

    Re: Delivery times

I've had receipt of two packages acknowledged. One to Qatar took 7 days and one to Afghanistan took 14 days.  All in all I'm impressed with the delivery times - it is a war zone after all. I just hope the rest of the packages I sent did arrive at their appointed destinations.

Great delivery time!!!  I can't believe it!  The last 5 or so boxes I have sent to Afghanistan have gotten there in record time!  6-7 days at the max.

I sent out two boxes late on Friday 5/10, and they were in Afghanistan by today 5/14!

I know that I live in Maryland, which is not too far from the APO AE, but this delivery time just seemed unbelievably fast!

Amazing!!!  Just had to share my excitement on this one!!!

    Dawn,

That must be some kind of record!  Living in the center of the US, our packages take 6-8 days to a base, but up to 14 days to some outposts.

I second that, Ann. I've had packages get to Iraq in 5 days, but I recently had one get to Afghanistan in 5 days, and that's from my tiny little local post office here in the midwest. I'm pretty impressed, I must say.
