Marty Horn: PLEASE do NOT send her anything but cards or letters at this point. We have not made it public about her because her location is about to change and her situation is VERY different then her brother's was. Will explain later, when the time is right, but please be patient. Trust me on this...
I noticed her name slip into the cue and gently smiled (as I made my request), then found myself quietly remembering that Anonymous post under "Priceless Moments" remarking on the angel pins that read, "Protect this Woman". http://forum.anysoldier.com/forums/post/20303.aspx Part of me wanted to stand between all things harsh and this daughter whom I do not know, but fancy I have special rights to (poor kid, will probably have 100 mothers). In my reflection, felt suddenly humbled realizing, in truth, this is what she is doing for me. I do respect her for it, and I must allow her to find her footing, as well as her own rhythm and style (of dealing with AS). I am excited, because I know I will have the enjoyment of telling her, telling others in her unit, that they are valuable and that I care. I've written long enough to note that communication is not just for them, that it is a luxury that also comforts me.
Individually, what I find hardest is me remembering she is warrior there to perform tasks. Intellectually, I've got it, but emotionally - in my mind's eye - I've already sent a do-it-yourself-Disneyland and expect her to salve my every informational need; sorry Marty (laughter). I'll do my best to reel it in a bit and pay attention to the subleties of the situation. Thanks for the guidance, Marty.

Sue,
Please coax your darling daughter into filling out the information as far as she is able when she posts so that all the eager supporters can know what facilities they possess and what they aren't priviledged to have, like PX, chow hall, CHUs or tents, etc. Having a little intuition as to how much support will be heading her way, she doesn't want to be bombarded with things that will have to be passed on to someone else.

hello, Gran. this is Svetlana. i am Marty's daughter and i am in Iraq right now. first of all, i'm very new to this whole anysoldier thing. dad asked me to sign up and i did. second of all, i haven't posted more information about the environment because of the type of job that i'm in, which is military intelligence. so i can't tell you almost anything, because it's classified. the information that i've told you guys, that's about what i can tell you. so i'm sorry if that's not enough. what i can tell you though, is that on the 10th of january, i'm going to a place where there won't be internet, so i won't even be able to post anything for a long time, unless our situation changes, and i'll get lucky. so that's what i got for you right now. if you want me to describe living conditions, then i can do that, but i can't talk about my job. sorry. hopefully this helps. svetlana

Svetlana,
Hey, Soldier - it's great that you are able to post here now at least.
We don't need to know about your job - just what kind of facilities you will have. Sometimes what we plan to send are dependant on whether there are microwaves, coffee pots, refrigerators, freezers, cots or bunk beds, buildings or tents, etc. That is the kind of info that will help so much to determine how to support our military - just the physical things that describe everyday situations.
Thank you for posting your message.
Hugs,
Gran

Hi, Svetlana! It's fantastic to hear from you! Thank you for the information, your job sounds incredible! We certainly understand that there is very little you can share. Sorry the report-writing is so tedious-I can understand why coffee would be among your most treasured assets.
Gran is right, we just want to know what's needed so that we don't bombard you with items that are more of a burden than a benefit. Sorry if we're seeming a little overbearing, it's just that we're all so endeared to your family, having the opportunity to support a member of the Horn family is a privelege that most of us have not yet had. To us, you are like "one of ours" (and not at all in a creepy way ).
Take care of yourself! Looking foward to your new address!

Hi Svetlana,
Perhaps you can get your parents to post for you since you won't have internet. I'm sure they'd be able to let us know what items are needed and which are not. As everyone else has already said, we feel like you're family, and want to be sure you have everything you need or want that we can provide to you.
Beyond that, know you'll have prayers said daily by countless people for you & yours. Your family has blessed all us "junkies" and countless soldiers that now we can do something to return the blessing.
Take care, be well, and know you're in the prayers of countless people.

hey, guys. well, right now the place where we stay at has everything-the PX, laundry facilities, dining facilities, etc. we don't have any microwaves or refrigerators in the rooms. but where we are going in a week or so, seems like we won't have anything at all. we won't have a bed to sleep on, just the cots. we won't have laundry facilities, or dining facilities (they said that we'll be lucky if we'll get a hot meal a day), no phones or internet. that's what they told us so far, but i don't know if it's true. so when i get there in the next couple of weeks, i'll find out how things are, and let you guys know, and also i'll let you know what kind of stuff is going to be beneficial over there. thank you for all of your wonderful comments. talk to you soon. svetlana
P.S. as soon as i get it, i'll send you guys my new address.

HI Svetlana,
If nothing else, I'm sure snail mail to your Any Soldier will be acceptable and then the info. (your address and the things you need to make life more bearable) can be posted. Then you rest assured, you'll get whatever you need as far as "things" are concerned. You've already got tons of prayers and good wishes!
Take care, be well, and may God bless & keep you.
Hugs,
Sharon
