    A powerful good-bye

I don't believe Maj. Andrew Olmsted had ever posted on Any Soldier, but I found his farewell blog incredibly moving. He had written it to be published in the event of his death, which came from small-arms fire on Jan. 3.

It can be found on andrewolmsted.com or rockymountainnews.com, where the newspaper has a lot of tear-producing coverage.

I was smiling through my tears last night as I read those words passed back from beyond... that he was cracking jokes the whole way through... what a treasure of a person to have lost.

    RIP Andy.

Oh No Oh No.  I was a supporter of his group and read the Rocky mountain news blog each week. Although he asked for no tears, I can't help it.  Losing a "good man" is the thing family, friends, and even volunteer supporter dread.  My prayers for all.

His unit did register for Any Soldier, but their address expired. His blog was part of my daily reading list and he'd asked for soccer balls and ball pumps in one of his postings. I bought some pumps to send to them and I told him they could make that request through the AS website and he was nice enough to reply. However, they never posted an update. This is very sad news. My heart goes out to his family.

MSN picked up the story today..Maj Olmsted was a true hero, and the loyalty of his friends reflect what a good person he was...
