    Gummy Candy + heat = ????

The other day we were wondering about how gummy's would hold up now.  Well, I found out quite by accident!  I picked up some of the cutest things for my little nieces--they were little "lightning bug" gummys, with a little pair of tongs.  When you pick them up with the special tongs, they light up!!  WELL--thinking gummys were a little more durable, I left them in my car.  It was only 89 here today, and when I saw the girls at lunch, they opened them up and said "EEEEWWWWW" in a way that only a 3 & 5 year old can do!  Ick!

Not only were they a sticky mess, they were the most hideous color I've ever seen!!  Fortunately, grandmother had some fruit snacks that worked equally well with the light up tongs, and the day was saved.  They were thinking of other things to eat with them when I left--I told them popcorn probably wouldn't be nearly as fun!

They were so cute--I can't wait till the weather breaks and I can send some in my cool weather care packages!!   Gift

Have heard that even though they melt into a blob ... they still eat them. Sorry to hear those cute little gummies didn't stay so cute for you!

    Phillis,

I was wondering the same thing, and did a similar experiment (also by accident!)...

I had been staying in Kansas with my sister, and found all sorts of great treats while I was there. So basically, my car became a traveling version of what my dining room table normally looks like. All of the trunk, and most of the back seat, filled with bags and boxes of soldier stuff, including 2 bags of gummy worms and some of the gummy soldiers I mentioned previously in the forums.

I finally made it back to Minnesota today, and unloaded everything, and was pleasantly surprised that ALL of my guumy candies looked fine. And this was after almost 2 weeks in the car, in varying degrees of heat, mostly in the 80s and one day up to 92!

Granted, this is only anecdotal evidence, and the heat over there is MUCH higher. But I thought I should share the info.

Do you think your gummies didn't fare so well due to their special glow quality? Just wondering...

    Grapefruit Slices didn't melt!

    News from the hot-zone:

I shipped a 5 lb bag of Haribo Grapfruit gummi candy to Iraq last week.  I heard back from my contact today ComputerCoolthat they arrived in great shape and were enjoyed by many.

Now these candies are not like floppy gummi worms- they have a little toughness to them- somewhere between the stretchy peach rings and a  rigid peppermint slice- I don't know if different gummis have different melting points- but that's my report!

I sent gummy worms (a specific request) to Afghanistan last week and got the report that they "all arrived just fine, didn't last long, though..."

Well, now I wish I had of gotten this little "thing" I saw over the weekend!  It was called a 3 FOOT HISSY FIT  (only in the south!!)  and it was a 36 inch gummy snake!  I could have fed a whole unit on that one!  LOL  Stick out tongue

Miss Pat, You are too funny!  My contact in Afghanistan would sure like to have one of those.  Where did you find it?  Maybe I could order online?  Just a thought.

Does anyone know if the following candies will melt in transit?:

DOTS (jelly-like), Candy Fruit Slices, Good n Plenty, Jelly Beans, Lollipops, Sugar Daddies.

     Thanks to anyone who knows.

Well, I did it AGAIN and I sent out some marshmallow fluff and a bag of marshmallows to Fallujah last week. They arrived JUST FINE!!! :) My fiancee said it wouldn't have mattered, he would have just eaten them out of the package... and licked the rest clean.

I don't thik our guys are too finicky when it comes to how the candy looks, as long as it's still tasty! :)

Too funny! I may have to order a case of those gummy snakes - and keep one for a neighbor friend who is afraid of snakes.

Glad to hear the gummy feedback. I've been sending gummy smilies for a while and never thought about those being a problem.  I've been told by several soldiers that even if something melts, they will eat it and lick the wrapper twice.
