    kathy cunningham:

    Hi All,

Back when AS first started, addresses were actually listed with the soldier's posting and did not need to be requested.  Later, for security reasons, the addresses were no longer posted for all to see and the address request system was put into place.  The old posts that you see have no requested numbers because there was no record of how many people used these addresses.  Once the new system was in place, we could see how many folks requested a specific address.  It was actually pretty enlightening and I know that personally I changed my choices in part because of those numbers.  For example I was supporting a lot of dog handlers and discovered that they usually had tons of support, and often they listed only a few soldiers that they were requesting for.  While it is not always a perfect indication of the actual support given (see many previous posts about that topic!), it does let you know when only a small number of folks have requested an address.  Hope this helps.

    Kathy

    Thanks for the info, Kathy!

Time for a *support junkies* alert, gang! Smile Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

I've been holding off on taking on any new contacts, but I feel like I have to request Petty's address. I see he has asked for cigars, and I happen to have some here that I can send to him.

    Thanks, Marilyn!

I am sending out a box today with several goodies, a home made computerized card (quite funny actually) with a letter asking specifically what he wants (the "tips" :) ) -- but still the box has quite a variety of goodies in it.

Marilyn, I was going to post the same thing! I actually stumbled across his post. Don't you just feel his sadness?

I will try my best to get something out to him BUT I am not requesting his address until I have something put together!!  And, Jennifer said they were asking for cigars.. that is sometimes easy with Cigar International.. so somehow, someway, I'll get something to him:)

SPC Wayne Pinkston could use some more support.  He was added 15 July 2007 and has been requested only 23 times as of today 25 Jan 2008.  We did a heads-up on him in the old thread.

Re: Overlooked contacts - 2008 edition

I haven't seen this one reported yet.  SSG Donald Bryant reports:  "Hey sorry...busy busy busy...I have not been reminded because I haven't received any mail from anysoldier in some time.  Is there something else I need to do?"  Expected to leave April 2008.

I just requested his info and will send out something early next week, if anyone else wants to send letters or other support that'd be great too.

I noticed his post, too, but was surprised. I sent several letters and packages in November and December to SSG. Bryant but did not hear back or have them returned. I wonder if there is a problem with his address? His address has been requested a sufficient number of times that something should have gotten through to them, even though they are in a remote area.

SFC Jimmy L. Cunningham was added October 29 and has received requests for his address only 17 times since then. His group of 16 men from Mississippi is in Serbia, and units in this area of the world are often overlooked even though it is a hot zone with miserable conditions in the winter. Many of the Kosovo soldiers also do a lot with local children and help the communities they are in. Let's make sure they are not forgotten.

Re: Overlooked contacts - 2008 edition

Rodney D. ODell is in Afghanistan, and a member of the 173rd. He's been signed up for AnySoldier since 27 Jun 2007, he represents 30 males, and his address has been requested 39 times. BUT in December he had an address change because he was moved to a new platton, and on 26 Jan 08 his address changed again. He says:

My address has once again changed. My platoon had to move from the camp we were at to a new location. We are still working on getting the internet completely up. For the most part we are starting over. Once again we have the bare essentials, no microwave, electric skillet, or any of the things that you all have sent in the past that made our life so much better.

EDIT: I knew ODell's name sounded familiar, so I just did some searching on the site and realized that he was the lucky recipient of one of the AnySoldier raffles! A DVD player, I think. I'm not sure at what point he received the DVD player set-up, but if anyone has any info about him and his situation, let us know!

SPC Michael B. Taylor, USA, represents a small unit of combat engineers requesting journals/notebooks to write things in,  gerber tools, black mechanix gloves and several other things.  27 address requests since 16Dec.

They are called the IED HUNTERS!!!!!!!  God Bless them!  Sounds like they could use a few things to help them in their tasks.

Lance Fernandez  18 requests since October.  Remarked in December that they had not received anything for over a month.

Re: Overlooked contacts - 2008 edition

Thanks for having brought PFC Ochoa to our attention.  I have sent him out a few postcards as that is what I have been able to afford.  Since I had his address I entered his name to win a case (24 bags) of DD coffee and I found out yeterday he won!!  Now when I reread his posts I see no mention of coffee but I will assume he'll enjoy it or share.  I will get out a small box of snacks to go with the coffee this weekend.

Thanks so much for keeping this thread going.

I received an email notification.  I had to give my email when I signed him up.  Do you have contact with him and if so do you know if he has a coffee pot?

Re: Overlooked contacts - 2008 edition

Amy, if you were asking me about contact with him, then no (sorry).  I was just curious how you knew that he won because I signed up a couple of guys too.  But I forgot that I had to include my email when I did.  I thought maybe there was a list of winners somewhere and I was going to check it out.
