    Been reading the contact's posts.....

New here(hence the name) and been reading a lot of the stuff the troops send....

And you know what just kills me(not HAHA kills, but makes me hurt) the most?

These guys(and gals) are putting themselves out on the line every day, living in really bad conditions(compared to what we have), trying just to do a good job, and come home in one piece and they STILL are so humble as to ask to send movies and games and books and magazines...but not new stuff.....oh no...

"Just send what you may not want anymore"

    My Good God in Heaven....

I hope and pray EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM comes home safe and to a reception they truly deserve....

They deserve every ticker tape, flag waving, band playing coming home parade we can give them!

    Whoo...I'm done....

At least until I read another post from them....Embarrassed

I'm not doing this because it makes me feel better about myself...I'm doing this because every time I hear about troops getting hurt or killed over there, I think, "That could be one of my daughters." And yeah, I'm a dad.

    Oh yeah...I'm hooked!!!!

Another thing that really made me proud of my five-year-old daughter(who is DRAMA QUEEN personified) was when she was sitting on my lap while I was going through this site, to get a feel for what needed to be done, the rules on shipping, etc. and asks me,

"Dad, are those the soldiers that we see on TV?"

"Yep, kind of...they are the ones that are over there and are going to send packages and letters to."

She gets down off my lap(she's five...the movie tends to start over a lot for her)....and I don't see her for about thirty minutes. She comes back with about five pieces of construction paper with stickers, crayon and marker art all over them with stick figures and her big 5yr old hand writing all over them and says,

"Can we mail them these too?"

I'm choking back tears and say..."Ssssure."

"Okay...these are for the ones that aren't hurt...I'm going to make get well cards for the ones that get hurt..."

And sits down and starts making more....while trying to get her 3yr old sister and 19mo old sister to "help" her.

I used to get scared about what kind of world my kids would have to live in, but after that, I'm not quite as anxious...

I'm not doing this because it makes me feel better about myself...I'm doing this because every time I hear about troops getting hurt or killed over there, I think, "That could be one of my daughters." And yeah, I'm a dad.

    Matt and family,

Welcomed you on another thread, but I'll say it again.  Welcome to you and your family.  If your "drama queen" continues thinking the way she does about our soldiers, she will rule very well.  *smiling*

You'll find you are not alone being a "problem supporter" around here.  If we gotta be "hooked" on something, what better thing to be "hooked" on than supporting our Armed Forces members?  Congrats on being free.

There are some really great ideas that some of the ladies have done that had small children.  Like making a banner for the soldiers and putting painted hand prints on them.  They were sooo cute.  Maybe some of the other ladies can tell you where to find those posts.  I'm not that good with the computer.

Yeah, she can be a handful, as well as her sisters, but she really does come up with some things sometimes that really make me think she's older than she looks.

We are going to make a banner that they can all hold and take a pic of it and print it up to send with the packages and letters, and that handprint thing is really cool.

My politics, which I won't discuss on here or any forum on here, are really strange. I've had had ultra-liberal friends say, "That was too Left for me," and Ultra-conservative friends say, "You are more Right than anyone I know," so I don't fit into any pre-set catagory.  But politics are not the point for this.  This just giving back to people that deserve our help.  I treat every person who provides a service to the continuation of our society with great respect(My mother held down a job as a waitress while going to nursing school, as well as taking care of me, after she and my father got divorced)...everyone from waitresses(I don't call them "servers"...I consider the older term more honorable...I'm weird) who have to work long shifts for little pay, all the way up to the Armed Forces, who at the very least give up a lot of their personal freedoms just so we can say what we want, when we want(to a degree, there is a point when "freedom" is used as an excuse to be a spoiled brat...but anyway), and at the very most get to come back from some place with a flag draped over them.....

I just think these kids(and a lot of them are just that...a lot of them are half my age) deserve better than what people, who have no idea what it's like to do what they are doing, are doing to them(talking trash about the troops, protesting the troops, etc)....and I'm glad there are just as many, if not more, people doing something good for them.

And I'm glad to be part of the company that chooses to do something POSITIVE for them....

I don't want any of them to be over there, but until we as a species can figure out how to quit fighting over things and wanting to degrade others, then we will need these warriors to do what most of us could never imagine doing.

Wow....that was a rant....you might see me doing this a lot....nothing burns my a** more than seeing these kids on TV, stretched to their wits end from no sleep, little food, and in harms way every day, with some of these kids in my neighborhood whining about how their game systems won't work.....RRRGH

I'm not doing this because it makes me feel better about myself...I'm doing this because every time I hear about troops getting hurt or killed over there, I think, "That could be one of my daughters." And yeah, I'm a dad.

Wow!  Everything you said chimes true for me, too, from the politics part to the fact that I also had a divorced mother who was teacher by day and waitress by evening when I was little so that she could provide for three kids.  And I agree whole-heartedly about the soldiers - they certainly deserve our respect and gratitude.  And I know what you mean about the whining kids; I've always maintained that there's nothing like the military to turn children into responsible adults.  My favorite bosses in my worklife have been the ones who had been in the military - they were good, decent, straightforward people and you never had to guess where you stood with them.
