Hi Joy,  I sent you an e-mail.

Vinny's never mentioned anything about the showers, but I know they don't have plumbing for the toilets, so I don't know if they would have plumbing for the showers.  I would just send the baby wipes.  It's cheaper.  Also, since things have stepped up in Iraq, I know they are doing a lot of fighting.  Joy was lucky to get the e-mail at least.

Got a LFR out yesterday 4/29/08 with diaper wipes (jumbo pack), 1 package adult washcloths, 3 full size hand sanitizers, 1 full size sunscreen, 3 small hand lotions( 2 oz intensive care), 2 full size foot powders (generic equiv of Gold Bond blue bottle), trial size face cleaners, body wash, and mouthwashes (6 total),  1 pack of  12 pens, 1 pack 10 pencils, 6 mini spiral notebooks.

Boy, you can jam a lot in those big boxes!!

Going on vacation soon, so my next set of boxes will not go out until  3rd week of May. If any one hears back by then, let me know what they still need.

    Hi Kathryn,

I know Vinny will appreciate everything you are sending to him.  I have once again bombarded him with e-mails, especially to stay safe, and have not heard from him (which is of course typical for him, as he has a one track mind---fighting and fixing up their camp, and the children---I know Joy, Dan, or Marilyn will post when they do hear from him, but what can I tell you.  Work comes first.

    Have a terrific vacation.

     Hi All,

No, I have not heard from Vinny for almost 2 weeks.  On Saturday I did send him out (2) fans, a desk lamp

and a couple headlamp lights (or whatever they are called).  My very kind neighbor donated the fans and

headlamp lights and also paid for the postage.  I filled in all the empty spaces with beanies and other small

    stuffed animals and McDonald toys.

    Oh Joy,

That's great about the fans, desk lamp, headlamp lights and the toys.  He'll be surprised.  Now with that desk lamp, he might be able to see so he can send you an e-mail.  Tee Hee!  Seriously though, they are probably out on missions as things have really heated up over there.  I'm sure you'll hear from him when he gets your package, or maybe he'll update AnySoldier.

So.... do they need light bulbs? How do you send light bulbs through the mail? Incandescent, fluorescent, or halogen?

    Hey ABCgal,

I think you should PM/e-mail Joy on how she sent the lamps since she has already sent them.  It's a good question and I have no idea as they are extremely delicate and break real easy.  I think the fluorescent contain mercury in them, because when they break (I work at Home Depot) they have to be disposed of in a certain way.  Hope this helps.  I'm clueless with this stuff.

Target.com has the Honeywell super turbo fan on sale for $10.89. They ship to APOs via standard USPS.

If you shop through the free Bordersrewardsperks.com, you can get 10% off the purchase. The small print for Bordersrewardsperks.com's Target discount states that it cannot be used w/ Amazon's 1-Click. So, I think when paying for your purchase you'll have to create a Target account instead.

Amazon.com has it for $12.99 and with a 4-for-3 promotion, so that is $9.75 each. They can't ship this to overseas APO, though. Also, starting June 1st, Amazon will start charging tax on items shipped to NY (Target always did).

Not sure which is the better way to go.

SSG Vinson is on the list of my next go around of boxes - to go out after JUNE 1. I am sending combo of hygiene stuff and some entertainment things in a LFRB!  I sorted my "soldier stash" this last week and have tons of sanitizer, wet wipes, etc.  I am sure someone can use it all, with 140 hard working guys needing to cleanup.  I am just waiting for that paycheck to get deposited so I have the postage money!!

Hoping to get these boxes of "stuff" out of my closet this next month anyway!! I need to actually have a little room to put away all the clothes stacked all over the laundry room before the rest of the family has a fit!

Edited to reflect the box got on its way on June 3 - mostly  hygiene and some current magazines.

    Vinny just posted today!

    Fans:

There is a posting about a $5 Walgreen's coupon which is valid tomorrow, June 13, 2008 only, when you purchase a minimum of $20.  You can see it HERE.   I posted the following in that thread:

FYI, mine has the large box fan for $15 and then you use the "easy saver" mail-in for $5 off, so it ends-up costing you only $10.  If you need someone to send one to, SSG Matt C. Vinson might be a good one.  There are 141 people, and only one fan!  On top of this, with just $5 more (to get you to $20) then you get the $5 off tomorrow with the great coupon!  Mine has a nice $1 section with 8 - 10 toothbrushes for $1. . . .  90 floss toothpicks for $1 and all kinds of "treasures".  Click HERE to see the Easy Saver information.

I'll pick-up one tomorrow for him.  I also "found" two more fans that I had here at home which work just fine, so I'm sending them over as well.

    Re: New Contact- SSG Vinson

    Hi, everyone --

Matt Vinson just posted today -- 7/17/08 -- his printer just went down and he's in need of one.

"Does anyone know anyone who wants to get rid of a printer who has the software to send with it, as an E-6 im constantly needing to print reports and briefs off my laptop. Our supply doesnt have any to replace the one that went down."

I just e-mailed him to ask for specs -- if/when I hear back, I'll post them here --

    Thanks,

    --Marilyn

    Hello Marilyn,

I want to help. I am sending a new printer from Ritzcamera. It's an Epson with printer cartridges, software, and USB cable. I order it this afternoon so it's on its way to the sandbox. Please relay the message to Vinny.Smile

    Thanks!
