Favorite Movies to Send to Soldiers

Gran mentioned that she would prefer to send only movies that she was familiar with, but just didn't know that many movies.  So I thought maybe we could help her (and ourselves!) out by listing some of our favorite titles to send to soldiers.  I used to be a big movie buff, so I could probably list dozens, but here are few off the top of my head to get us started:  The Usual Suspects, Mercury Rising, Frequency, Bad Boys, Apollo 13.

    Good idea!

What About Bob? (funny for anyone!)
    Muriel's Wedding (to women)
    Strictly Ballroom (to women)
Deadliest Catch (TV series, recently released on DVD)
Napoleon Dynamite (dumb, but so funny!)

For Christmas:  Scrooged, Michael, and Love Actually.

[Jen, how do you  type a list without it being automatically double-spaced?]

I'm on a Mac, using Safari. When I use a PC and IE, it does the double-space thing automatically.

Heya Free Spirit, if you hold down the shift when you hit enter, it SHOULD put it on the next line without the extra space. :)

     And as for movies:

    Mr. and Mrs. Smith
    Mummy trilogy
    Casino Royale
Anything moderately interesting and cheap on netflix' used service. ;) I don't often send movies though.

    Valeta, thanks for the tip.

I second Mr. and Mrs. Smith and the Mummy trilogy.  I have sent both.

I just watched Bruce Almighty last night (it was funny) and am putting it in a package today...Some of my other favorites are: Tin Cup,Major League (GO TRIBE), I just sent , Prusuit of Happyness-great movie....Bull Durham., Pushing Tin,... I sometimes send new releases to my regulars after watching them myself....One of my regulars (all MalesWink )said they were watching The Desperate Housewives series.  I have sent Jerry Seifeld series too.

P.S. Usually  I look for movies that are a little older because I think there families may send them the new releases...i think you can get some good deals on used DVD's at Block Buster...

Check the Best Buy ad in the paper today.... they have select movies for $9.99 and you get a free $5 gift card if you buy 2 of them. Some of the movies to choose from are:

    There's Something about Mary (funny)
    Dodgeball (dumb but funny)
    Office Space
    The Full Monty
Revenge of the Nerds (oldie but funny)
Fight Club (a little strange for my taste, but a good guy movie)
    Transporter 2 (action)
    Flyboys (anyone seen this?)
Tom Hanks' Big (with the giant keyboard @ the toy store!)
That Thing You Do (one-hit wonder music group)

Whether you're Gehrig or Ripken, DiMaggio or Robinson; Or any kid who picks up a bat or puts on a glove.... You are challenged to do your best everyday in every way...

Oh, Pushing Tin!  I rarely find anyone else who has seen it.  Great choice.

Folks who send recent releases might want to consider Breach, which is being released this week.

Re: Favorite Movies to Send to Soldiers

I just recently cleaned out my DVD collection with the sole purpose to send out movies to the soldiers.  AnySoldier has truly helped with the decluttering phase I am in right now. Big Smile  I sent out about 10 movies each to two units with microwave popcorn.

My question is, do you write AnySoldier on the DVD case?  That's suggested somewhere here in the web site due to packages being stolent.  Also, I was abit worried about them bieng stolen I didn't declare them on the 2976 form, I just put I was sending popcorn and magazine (which was in the package).  Is that really a bad thing? Confused

If you live near a DollarTree, they have some plastic containers that look like the red and white popcorn boxes.  I swear I saw them in two sizes, but when I went to the one closest to me ready to pick some up (I was already beyond my quote on the last trip!) they had only the larger size, which is designed to be the serving bowl.  The other size (if it exists in more than my imagination) is about the same as the individual-serving-sized boxes you would get at a movie.  So a "set" would be one large one and x number of small ones.  Cute "reminds us of home" addition to a box of DVDs and popcorn.

    JrManda,

The really bad thing is not to declare something that might be a problem for the postal service...something that might leak or something that you aren't supposed to send at all (because then it will look like you were intentionally trying to sneak it past them instead of just being an idiot like the rest of us).  Otherwise, the main reason for listing is so they can figure out what was supposed to be in your box in the event that it should come apart somewhere along the way.

I don't write anything on the DVDs.  I write "used digital media" on my customs form (whether it is used or not) and hope that this won't catch the attention of a would-be thief, but that the postal employees could figure it out if they really needed to.

    Ditto on the decluttering!
