    Avatar

I'm sorry if this is addressed somewhere else in the forum or FAQs but I haven't been able to find it.

Is there a size limitation on avatar pictures?

I've tried uploading very small pictures that I use as avatars on another forum, but the pictures don't show up here on anysoldier.com.

Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Nancy,

I've been looking around for you and can't find anything on a size limitation (that's not saying it's not stated anywhere--I just can't find it), but I do see two areas where you would access your "profile" section where you have to enable avatars.  Maybe could that be it?

I tried doing it also.  I am clueless when it comes to this.  Marty, if you get a chance, what are we doing wrong.  I was hesitant to ask this since you are so busy with more important things.  But, Since Kat brought it up, I thought I would ask AS too.  I love learning new things on the computer.  Thank you.

    Re: Avatar

I don't know what the actual requirements for the forum avatars are, but I recommend no larger than 100x100 pixels, and either .jpg or .png format (I know both of these work). I don't know if .gif format will work or not, it may.

Also, some of these steps may not be totally necessary, but I think it *should* work at least:

click on your username where it says "Signed in as _____" to go into the setup.

    click on the "Avatar" tab
    - click the radio button to the left of "Yes" for "Enable Avatar"
    - click the "Save Changes" button at the bottom

it should reload the page and you should still be on the "Avatar" tab
    - click the "Browse" button next to "Upload Avatar"
    - locate the file on your harddrive and click "Open"
    - click the "Update" button next to the "Browse" button and wait a moment while it loads (I think the whole page reloads, like when you clicked Save Changes before)

I don't know if it is necessary at this point, but you might want to just click "Save Changes" at the bottom again. Then y'gotta wait a little while to see if it updates. As it says up at the top, it could take up to 10 minutes.

A couple ways to check are either to look at a post you've made, as it should show your new avatar there (easiest, imo), or to go back into the setup page, as it should show there next to your name, also.

    Hope this helps,

    Hello to all my friends.........

Well, I had to update my avatar.....The little baby in the pic (Shavonne) is a year old today!!!!   So, here is a recent pic of her and her big sister Nevaeh (and "dolly" in the middle).   Just had to share and let you all know why I changed the picture.   Anyone out there with grand children...........the best there is!!!   Now, don't get me wrong.....I love my 3 children tooo.......but with grands, you can spoil them all you want......and then they go home!!!!   Need to figure out how to have them first!!??

    Love and peace..........Anne Marie

    Hi Anne Marie,

Your grandchildren are precious.  But I have a question, how do you get the avatar in there?  Please explain (in detail) tee hee!  I am clueless with the pictures.

    Thanks, Mimi

    Re: Avatar

    Mimi,

thanks for the compliment on them......they do keep me young and moving (now there's a way to loose weight!!)

I was able to change the picture myself.   Just go into Edit Profile and find the Avatar button.   It will ask you to browse. Hit that button and I went through the pics I have in my saved Pictures (on the ocmputer).   Now, not all pics will fit. I had a different one picked out  and I guess it was tooo big to put in .  I don't know all the specifications and the terms.........but in normal people terms, that's how I did it.   I wouldn't know how to do if if I didn't have pics already saved on my computer.   Hope this helps you.....So, where on LI are you???   I still have family in Mineola and Massapequa.   I ran away and headed south (SC) .........I've seen you're part of the OK / TX thread.......isn't that soooo much fun to read???   I certainly do miss things that are only in the BIG CITY......esp. a Broadway show!!!   Anyway...........off to other posts........

    Love and peace........Anne Marie

    Re: Avatar

I've been trying to post my flower picture as my avatar, but no success, so I checked the size and it says it is 1932x2576 pixels.  Is that the reason that it won't load as my avatar - is it too big?  We don't have any picture handling software on the computer, so how do you get a picture that is small enough?
