Large group & Few address requests

Please feel free to add other names.

Check out Christopher McNutt a large group with minimal address requests. For those of you who are new to the anysoldier site, look at the left hand column next to troop posts.  You can find this group by selecting from the drop down menu "last name". Click M for McNutt, when the page appears, scroll down until you see his name.

Other large group/few address requests are:

     James P Rigdon

     Jason A Runnels

    Christopher K Waldschmidt

    Mose Pak

    Ruth Sonak

    Tania P Moreno

    Raymond W Whitener

    Ross E Forrest

    Kirkner I Bailey

You can also go to the Where to Send / Special Contact Requests page for several threads containing individual soldiers, or lists of soldiers that people have added.

Contacts getting overlooked? (I'd go to the last few pages of this one, it's pretty long...)

That is horrible! To have so many requests and then receive little or nothing. People should really think before they commit to do something like this...... But here is my question....we are already supporting 3 contacts, and financially cannot take on anymore on a regular basis. Those troops who are not getting any support at all, is it a good idea to request their address so they at least get something, if only right now, and then once in a great while down the road....or just wait and pray that someone who is more able takes them on? Otherwise, it shows as another requsted address so people assume they are getting more support than they actually are...(as we are finding out!) Somebody let me know what you think please? Otherwise, even though it breaks my heart, I am not going to request anything else right now......Sad

Re: Large group & Few address requests

    HI soccermomlynnette,

I (and I think every person on this forum) struggle with this same dilemma, of wanting to take on more contacts than I can afford to support. I have realized that I am only one of many people who are supporting our troops, so I can let a few contacts go by and hope and pray that someone else is helping them out.

The other thing I am doing is writing a LOT more letters, and sending less large packages. I really do love to write letters and send cards, and for someone who isn't getting any support, I figure a letter telling them "thank you" and "I care about you" is worth more than warm socks and beef jerky. (Not that I will stop sending socks and jerky, of course!) So if you do see a contact that you want to reach out to, but can't afford to send a package, I highly recommend writing them a letter. And I'm assuming by your screen name that you have kids, so a letter and/or artwork from your kids is even better!

Otherwise, you are absolutely right in sticking to your 3 contacts and supporting them.

This is my take on it, and it is an evolving process for me. So do what works for you and your family. Smile

Re: Large group & Few address requests

    Lynette,

That is one of the reasons that we send to several of the contacts who represent large groups - they usually can never get more support than they need, and even if we only send 5-6 packages during their deployment (when we don't catch them at the beginning), that is that many people who don't have a support base at home that will feel better.  The contacts that supply smaller groups (less than 12 or so) we don't send anything to unless they appear to be in need (no packages, fire, remote outpost, etc.) simply because they are more often chosen by enough (at least seemingly according to their requests).  As long as I am sure that we will be sending something, I don't feel bad about requesting an address even for one package for a stop-gap measure - just think of how many may have requested addresses for a single postcard or holiday card and how that made the request numbers balloon.

We have sent a package or packages to over 600 contacts since the end of 2004, but some of those contacts dropped out after their first post, so we never sent them anything else after the first package or two.  That has happened with about as many as the others that we continue to support with subsequent packages.  It seems that we often end up with the names of the ones who drop out early.
