Marty linked this on the news page and it caught my attention. I guess the Mayor of Berkeley doesn't realize who it is putting their lives on the line protecting that right to protest in the first place. Amazing to me the level of stupidity that can float to the position of Mayor. I sent an email to the Mayor, not that my vote in MO counts, thought he should know we're looking. I'm just disgusted so I'll let the article speak for itself or anything further I have to say might be too ugly for posting. I will just say that I for one would be honored to have the men and women or our armed forces right next door!
Shelly
Email for Sr. Aid to the Mayor: jsinai@ci.berkeley.ca.us just in case anyone needs it for anything ; ) Funny, the Mayor's published email address is not working......hmmmm.

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Thanks for posting this, Shelly. I read this earlier today
http://mikegulf.blogspot.com/
there's some of the videos AND email addresses of people (scroll down after the videos & the end of that particular article), if one is so inclined to send an *ahem* nicely worded little message. I've already emailed a few. I was infuriated, incensed, enraged..ok, they're pretty much the same..but that's how HOT I was after seeing this! Not that it comes as a surprise, really. Bunch'a *unprintable bad words here*. "No business as usual..." the gall!! My family lives in San Francisco, so you can imagine the (waspish, rather scathing) email I sent to all of them this morning (and friends that live there, too)-including my cousin-in-law who's in the SFPD..telling them that if they didn't send emails, letters, etc to the people (I provided the emails for their convenience) in the list or I refuse to speak to them & would be very ashamed of them..childish, I know (but effective since we're a close-knit family & talk to each other just about everyday). Madison watched it with me & I told her how deeply ashamed I was that she had to witness this repulsive behavior by twitty idiots.
*sigh*
I'd better stop..cos I know I would rant on & on if I don't.
Hope I don't offend people here with some of my words.
Steff

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Ok! Now I am MAD!!!!! Ok- absolutely furious!!! We live about 1/2 hour from Berkley, and although this is totally unbelievable, it is not totally unbelievable that it is happening there! But you can rest assured that I will be contacting people and putting my 2 cents in! Interestingly enough, I am sure that they would expect their city to be protected at al costs, should anything happen........aaaarrrggghhhh!
Proudly serving those who serve US!

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
I read about this stupidity a couple of days ago through a link someone posted here for a blog I believe. Maybe the one for KOP. Anyway, there was a link from the blog to a website, http://www.moveamericaforward.org/, and they have an online petition as well as lots of info on the upcoming protest. MAF website also has a link/banner or whatever for anysoldier.com. Any way we can get the address of the Marine Recruiting station to send some love?

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Hi, everyone -- I cleared this post through Marty (thanks, Marty!) -- so here you go!
Here's the address for the Marine recruiting office at Berkeley (note: on the envelope, put "We Support You" so they don't think it's hate mail!) -- Yep, I sent mine on Monday --
United States Marine Corps Recruiting 64 Shattuck Square Berkeley, CA 94704
Also -- the Semper Fi Act of 2008 has been introduced in both the Congress and the House. U.S. Senators Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), Saxby Chambliss (R-Georgia), Tom Coburn, M.D. (R-Oklahoma), John Cornyn (R-Texas), James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma), and David Vitter (R-Louisiana) introduced the Semper Fi Act of 2008. The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley, California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) introduced a companion bill in the House of Representatives. You can contact your Senators and Congressmen to support these bills. (I already did!)
And, here's the California Governor's address:
Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger State Capitol Building Sacramento, CA 95814 Phone: 916-445-2841 Fax: 916-558-3160 ( new number )
I got this info from CJ's milblog -- here's the link -- http://www.soldiersperspective.us/ to read more.

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Just sent a card to Our Marines. Composing letter to Gov. schwarzenegger and sent emails to the mayor and all council members. Wonder how many emails their getting? Joyce
Update: Mayor's email came back "This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification.
Delivery to the following recipients failed." Was his email "full" or did he change his email address? YA THINK!

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Marilyn - Thanks for the addresses. Guess those folks at Berkeley haven't figured out who protects that right to free speech they think they're exercising. Card on the way to the Marines.

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
I was really bothered after reading all this, especially hearing that emails people sent were undeliverable. So I looked up the Mayor of Berkeley's website. It gives all his contact information, so if email doesn't work, regular mail will.
Mayor’s Office 2180 Milvia Street, Berkeley, CA 94704 TEL: (510) 981-7100, FAX: (510) 981-7199, TDD: (510) 981-6903 Office Hours: Mon-Fri 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Email: mayor@ci.berkeley.ca.us
Also, if you would like to read his statement regarding this, visit the website:

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Gee, I was so relieved to finally find a site that was all about Grunts in country and not politics... I guess I'll have to keep looking. Before supporting the Semper Fi Act, take a gander at who is losing that funding. Public school lunches will be losing almost a quarter of a million dollars under that nice little piece of legislation. I'll bet you can ask Any Marine who is helping to feed children in other countries or who actually had to go on the "free lunch" programs as children if they would like the funding cut to such programs and I'll bet their answer is an unequivocal "NO". The USMC has taken on tougher opponents than the freaking Berkeley City Council and some organization called "Code Pink". The USMC handled this latest controversy with the stoicism and honor that they have been exhibiting since 1775. I like to think they don't respond to this type of political nonsense because this isn't really an attack on Marines... This is a bureaucratic burp from people who are too soft, too detached and have too much time. Attacks on Marines involve mortars, IEDs, bullets and k-bar knives.
Semper Fi, Always Faithful
The Marines I have seen around the world have the cleanest bodies, the filthiest minds, the highest morale, and the lowest morals of any group of animals I have ever seen. Thank God for the United States Marine Corps! Eleanor Roosevelt, First Lady of the United States, 1945

Re: Berkeley boots Marines
Vetwife, I think you may have misunderstood? That's exactly what we're all talking about doing! Even if the Marines in Berkeley aren't getting shot at, the marines they lead to service are and we just want them all to know that the whole world doesn't believe they are "predators" or "murderers". I don't know how I feel about the bill, but I know how i feel about our Marines and I sent em a card and emailed all my friends to as well. And I emailed the mayor about my feelings regarding a govt entity clearly abusing it's power. Free speech supports both sites and the Marines and their supporters should not have less than the dissenters do. Personally, if the p**p ever hit's the fan, i hope it's a marine next door to me and my school instead of a pink guy with a sign!
As far as the Semper Fi bill goes, Marty wishes we not debate politics on site so I won't but I'll refer you to the bill cause I'm pretty sure it's gormet organic lunches, not free lunches the cut proposes. I agree, nobody would want that! There are probably oppinions both ways among the readers here. I think everyone here is absolutely involved enought to read the bill and decide for themselves whether they support it. And there's probably quite a debate that could be had!
But the bill was just a result of the actions the city of Berkely took. The info about the bill just happened to come up becasue it was related. It is absolutely NOT the point of the thread or even till now really a part of the discussion ; ) Sorry if you felt it leaned that way but I'm sure it wasn't anyone's intention, definately not mine.
I think we're all agreed the Marine's got treated badly in Berkely! So if we continue to show some retraint on discussion of the bill so we don't lose the thread and it's purpose, the people here can really make an impact and show the Marines some love. It may not be a gun or a knife, but they need to know we support them when they are going to work every day getting that message! This is the same group that harrasses wounded soldiers in front of Walter Reed carrying signs that say "maimed for a lie". They are a real threat to mentality, support and morale. We are a real way to counter that! Sending a hug won't inflate the pink people, just counter them. I agree, the marines have responded honorably, I'm going to be a little less ummm... reserved ; )
Sorry for any confusion, Shelly
