    Kids say the darndest things........

While shopping with my family, my almost 5 year old son spots a group of guys, some of which are in Military uniforms. Without warning, he takes off from me and he hugs the leg of the soldier closest to him and asks him if he got the baby wipes we sent him.  He then asks the soldiers when they are going to get potty trained soon so that they no longer need the baby wipes and he can start sending more fun stuff like toys.  There was a big roar of laughter from that group of guys.

I wrangle the rest of the kids over to the soldier and explain our family participates in Any Soldier.  I further explain that the kids help me shop for the care packages and that I am potty training the littlest one, thus the potty training comments from my son.  I also told him that we use coupons to buy the good baby wipes and my little guy helps match the coupons to the baby wipes as this is his job while shopping.

The other kids chime in and ask him if he got the pictures and cards they made. He told them yes thank you, you guys are great artists.

This soldier got down eye to eye with my son  and told him, keep sending those baby wipes, pictures and cards because it makes Soldiers smile and that someday they would all be potty trained.

Just a little incident I had to share with my fellow AS junkies.

    Best,

    Susan C

    Sue,

That is priceless.  It's a story those soldiers will always remember and tell over and over again.  It doesn't get any better than that.  You have a lovely family.

Thanks for sharing such a great story with us, and how wonderful that you are involving your children like that.  Seems these young warriors always know just the right thing to say to the little ones.  They probably enjoyed the encounter every bit as much as you and your children.

Oh what a wonderful story.  That just proves what huge hearts our military members have.  I've tears in my eyes thinking how shocked those marines had to have been.  How sweet of them to tell your little guy that they got the pictures & loved them.  His sense of humor is in tact too....someday they would all be potty trained!  What a hoot!  Thanks so much for sharing that story!

    Hugs,

Yes, it was a really special experience and it has inspired the kids to do more artwork and cards for care packages.

I told them thank you for your services to our country and for putting a big smile on my kids faces.

I can't wait to include this in my next batch of letters.

That is absolutely adorable... I can just imagine how amused they all were at not being potty trained! Wink

Yes their innocense is adorable.  We are attempting to take the twins on our first PGR Mission today as long as it is not raining.  If it's raining, just Mommy is attending.

Susan - what a sweet story.  It's great that your kids are a big part of your support system.  They will remember this. That soldier was sweet also.

Hilarious! I bet that story will stay in your family and theirs for a long, long time.  HOw kind of the one soldier to stoop down and play along with sincere gratitude.
