Hi Chris! Funny you should mention vehicles when speaking of getting healthier...LOL I often refer to myself as a Hummer working my way down to a '68 Ford Mustang convertible! LOL Okay, the convertible may not be realistic but it is my dream car and being healthier is my current dream. I would be ecstatic to be like a Ford Ranger instead! LOL Wink

Re: Thank YOU Any Soldier Supporters, ONE and ALL from ALL of US!!

Well, slow starting, maybe sort of midway starting over again. I have a 63 acre site I can walk around at lunch. I do, sometimes. I only have a 30 minute lunch break, but I have two 15 minute breaks (I think!) during the day, so I usually go for a walk after lunch. But man is it hard to be good. I know my problem, it is no will power. I KNOW I have to be healthier, but the easy food and food at the ball park during baseball season is just too convienient. There is no salad choice at the boosters stand! So, it is slow going, and I fall off the wagon-too much-but I know my demon and will try to one-up it.

    THANK YOU!

Each step we take in the right direction is one step closer to getting better. For every ten steps we take forward there MAY be a step or two back. Don't let that bother you as long as you take another ten steps forward... because then you are EIGHTEEN TO NINETEEN STEPS AHEAD! Remember, every little bit helps and WE ALL HERE are HERE to HELP each other! I ask EVERYONE to take a minute to say hi. Let us now that you are joinning us in a little LIGHT fun here! Because that is what it is all about... having fun while we get to know each other WHILE we are getting to know ourselves in a new way!!

    Hello Heidi,

SO, you got demons.... well I am the EXORCIST! AND I will execise your demons... GET DOWN AND GIVE ME TWENTY O DEMONTED ONE!!

OK, a couple of things. If it aint easy it is going to be HARD to do... so make it easy. First by understanding and BELEIVING that you CAN (read as: are allowed) to have bad days. Bad days are OK as long as they don't turn into BAD WEEKS! So, that is another reason I attack my workout on a daily basis and take a day off when I need it and sometimes when I want it. It is OK to have a bad DAY! Next invest in ziplock bags... cheap and disposable! buy fresh veggie sticks, meat sticks and cheese sticks and bag a three or four day supply up. Cutting your own of everything makes it cheeper. Carry them with you and eat all day long. A cow eats until all four stomachs are full then doesn't eat until it needs to again... and stands around all day. A horse (read as: Stallion) "grazes" all day long.... is always on the move and is... well.... as healthy as... a horse! Which one do you want to be a cow or a STALLION! Grazing small portions of (preferrably healthy) food is a good thing. Meat is protein and GOOD, veggies is full of water and some Carbs, cheese is your dairy. Oh you want to snack while at the ball park Well there is your bad day NO BIG THING!! Take some of those well supplied ziplocks and you won't go overboard while hitting a home run!!

    Hope this helps!!

    GOD BLESS YOU ALL!

Re: Thank YOU Any Soldier Supporters, ONE and ALL from ALL of US!!

Well, along with the emails that are comming to me privately I got an email from someone I couldn't convince to post here BUT she said I could print her words of wisdom!!! SO, with no further ado... here it is:

"Did I tell you I teach nutrition? You've been on target so far. The only thing you've left out is: while counting calories, make sure the calories count! I know people don't like to count calories, but most people don't know that a calorie is a unit of measure of energy. Therefore, calories have to be counted, both calories in and calories out. More going in means more HAS to come out. It's simple math: More in/less out = gain; less in/more out = loss; equal in/out = no change. By the way, for all the people who believe protein diets are the way to go, excess protein stores in the body as FAT. Once converted to fat, it will not convert back to protein. The only way to get rid of it is to use the energy stored in the fat (I mean move!).Most people don't even know how many calories they should be eating. For the average old lady like me, it is around 1800 calories. For someone more active or younger, it will be higher. There is a website available from the USDA that will spell it out for people. On the right side of the page, there is a link "My Pyramid Plan." It asks age, sex, height, weight (optional) and activity level. It then gives what the caloric intake should be as well as nutritional balance (how many cups of grains, veggies, fruits, dairy and meat). That's what "make the calories count" means. It is very easy to follow. Try it out. Share it with your friends!

    www.mypyramid.gov"

We all have stuff that we can share... I am so surprised that as much as people like to SHARE this site has not jumped off the shelf and started walking IT'S SELF!!! You have the right to read and you have the right to write!! Feel free to put your thoughts, comments, complaints, worries, needs, desires, questions, words of wisdom with us all!! We all want to hear what YOU have to say???

    MAY GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!

    TTFN

pps, many of you ask what (((  I  ))) want or need. Well I have finally thought of something and I am going to post it here. I don't want you to go overboard, or crazy or put a second mortagage on your house just because it is for me! But, My Son downloaded the first season of "HEROS" and I fell in love with it. The main reason is because it is COMMERCIAL-LESS... I BARELY watch TV because I hate commercials so much! But I like watching it on dvd with just the minor fadeout/fadein where the commercials were taken out. "Rescue Me"is another good one and my wife and I loved to watch "House" (the one about the doctor on pain killers with the three younger assistants two male and a female. Home Improvements was my all time favorite comedy right up there  with the Cosby show. So, if you have these and can either down load them to a small memory stick or copy them to dvd's for me that would be just what I am looking for!! Nothing fancy and they don't have to be new originals. SO, that you don't get what someone else is getting it might be a good idea to make a thread and discuss how you all can get together and make it even cheaper and maybe all in one kinda deal. If I do get copies of the same things though don't worry it will just be EASIER to share them!! Just an idea cause you asked!! lol

    Re: Stepping Up

GOOD FOR YOU AND THANK YOU MOM!!

I want to thank Lynn AKA vtleogal and Ruth and her husband Roy! Both of thier packages came in today and I am here to tell you they hit it right on the nail!! Ruth and Roy sent a movie and nine memory sticks!! They are going in to the top box (what is a top box you ask... patience). Lynn sent a GIANT box with all kinds of great prizes TO INCLUDE about 15 memry sticks! Thank you Lynn, Ruth and Roy! Thank all of you for what you do daily... not just for us here at this FOB but for all the help you have give   A N Y   S O L D I E R   any where in the world!!

I have devised a great plan for the gifts that you sent. You see we have gotten things from as small as Slinkys and Balloons to as big as memory sticks and jewelery! So, I came up with the PRIZE BOXES. Each person will only be eligble for one gift when they win... but two winners will get a choice! There will be a First place box, a Second place box and a Third place box. So, when a person comes in Third place in a tournament he/she can choose from the cool but small gifts of the Third place prize box. When a person comes in Second place he/she can choose from either the Second place box which is a little bigger and a little better or the Third place prize box. And, the First place winner gets to choose one gift from any of the three prize boxes!!! This way a person who ends up in third doesn't get to pick a great gift... giving meanning to being a first place winner... but all the people will be very happy to be eligble to get something. I assure you all of that!!

The MWR (when they have prizes) will usually only give prizes to the first place winnners... so we are way ahead of them!!

Thank you one and all for all you do!!

May God bless you all and His will be done!

    Re: Stepping Up

HI Chris , its been a while and I a glad to see this thread still Rollin' (have sent a pm due to absence)

I like the topic of Health: I do a few things as well although I am NO aerobic Queen let me tell you!!

I battle IBS daily, and to keep me on top of the battle I have to eat  a certain way or I am down for the count for as long as a week. For instance if I eat a steak, I start with a fairly flat belly and within 5hrs I look like I am 6 months pregnant the next day I usually am laid up in bed due to discomfort. I do NOT eat very much red meat, I stick to chicken & clams oysters, tuna & fish

THe biggest thing I see is people like Soda Pop instead of water, I cant drink Pop.

I have an empty Powerade Bottle from my son that is 32 oz and is refilled with Water , it is my constant companion throughout the day and filled MANY times.

My main meal is a Big bowl of Salad with peppers, mushrooms plus my chosen meat ( fish or chicken)

I cook for my family, and I prepare my dinner at the same time. It has been this way for yrs. If I dont want to hurt, or be inconvenienced at the worst time, then I have to stick with my eating habits.

I used to Stir-fry alot but I get lazy and dont wish to clean the amount of dishes from making two different meals as the rest of my crew are meat & potatoe kinda guys.

I dont eat fast food, and I am physically active all day.

I dont watch TV (AT ALL)or purchase magazines that tell me I have to buy this anti-cellulite cream because I just shouldnt have cellulite..lol and I am not going to go out and have Plastic surgery either! I choose what I view and put in my head via movie collections or Internet Researching on subjects(drives me nuts when its down)/

I also have a meniscus tear on my knee, so I do what I can and wear a knee brace when I do certain activity. Walking alot is painful but I can do LOTS of other things!

This is Just ME! I know some people love their pop and i LOVE my coffee

and Somedays I would give just about anything to eat a Perfectly done Rare-MediumRare Steak without the sideaffects!..lol

Thanks Chris, Hope that was ok, I dont mean to offend or detract anyone from making headway on their health.

    Love n Hugs Nanc

I've been reading all these posts and I have to say that I find it great how everyone is coming here and supporting each other.  I, too have some work to do on myself and hope to be a part of the support system going on here.

Woooohoooooooooo I feel good!!   Okay, so maybe I am a little over excited.  I haven't lost any weight yet but I've been walking every day and that "geeze, I can't catch my breath" feeling is gone and my legs feel stronger already.

A suggestion that I learned from when my mom was in rehab a number of years back.  A can of soup or a canned vegetable can be used as a "weight." Hold it in your hand and exercise with it.  It doesn't cost a thing because everybody has a can in their cupboard and you can do the exercise while watching TV or even while sitting here reading the forum.  You gotta move it to lose it!

And isn't that what we come for... a little lite reading, some good fun and knowledge and to SHARE what is on our hearts and minds?!!

I want this site to get so busy that AS.com INCHARGE will have to run us off to a new thread so we can start over and grow again and again and again!! I hope you are sharing the posts with your spouses and the TWO of you will get involved with working out together. Sometimes it is just one who needs to get in shape... but if the other works out too... it means togetherness and a great support system as well as them getting in BETTER shape. Re: Stepping Up

Ok, so one day, I got on the scales and didn't like what I saw. The number was WAY too large. The number to lose was also WAY too large. It was an insurmountable number. So, I thought about it. There was no way I was EVER going to lose that giant, huge, enormous amount of weight. But, I thought, I could lose 5 pounds...and I did. Then, I thought, I could lose 5 more...then 5 more...you get the idea. I started watching the 0s and 5s on the scale. Some I saw a few times, but I kept at it - 5 pounds at a time. Nearly a year later, I attended my HS reunion weighing 5 pounds LESS than I weighed 30 years earlier. If I could do it, YOU CAN TOO! Go for five!

Perfect CWP!...you are right...it can be overwhelming to think of the big number, but taking it like you did, 5 at a time seems more attainable....thanks for the reminder that small steps can lead to big accomplishments!....

and...Thanks chris for all your words of encouragement!.....I will start the day with a smile tomorrow!!....Big Smile
