    HOT Coffee in a can

    Has anyone tried this?  You pop the pull tab & the coffee heats up.  Walmart has it for $.50 a can - it's probably a 16 oz. cup of coffee.  I saw one man buying a big cart load.

    I'm not sure if it would be allowed?  What makes it heat up?  (I'm not crazy.  I kinda sorta almost don't believe there's a little gnome inside with a match.)

     ::::: EDIT ::::::

    I googled.  *blonde moment*  Here are the answers to HOW it warms itself.

    How does the can do it? A single step mixes calcium oxide (quicklime) and water. It heats the coffee to 145 degrees in six minutes — and stays hot for 30 minutes.

    It sounds like a technology used by soldiers to heat Meals-Ready-To-Eat. But MREs mix magnesium iron oxide and water and need several steps. This is one-step and self-contained.

    That sounds like a great idea! I haven't heard of this product. Will see if I can find some and test it.  Some of our guys told me that they use the hand warmers to help heat up ( and keep warm!) food and drink items. The only problems is that using hand warmers can take a WHILE to warm something up. One guy said if he leaves on a mission, he puts pop tarts in his pack with hand warmers. By the time he needs a snack, they are warm.

     A|I have to admit, on long road trips, we have tried this to heat and keep baby bottles warm and it does work. Just time consuming.

    I'll look for the coffee today. Any ideas what section of walmart it would be in??

    The self-heating coffee's are really good.  They have Hot chocolate and soups now as well.  We've been keeping them on hand for a few years now - we loose power often in the winter.

     I hadn't thought to send them, though!  Great idea!  Thanks  :)

    I found these things at WalMart a few months back and posted about them. There was some indication that they weren't safe. The thread is under "Hot Coffee that doesn't need to be Heated!" I never bought any because my guys have power. I'd be curious to hear from anyone who has sent them.
