Hi, Junkies -- our friend and fellow Forum member SFC Christopher J. Dunn has a new post up today (3/21/08) with another great request! (Chris, you are one amazing man! -- Wish I had one-tenth of your energy!)
He's looking for a variety of items to be used as MWR tournament prizes for the troops! I know I have stuff I can send -- company t-shirts, mugs, etc.
Hmmmm -- better stand back, Sarge!
Happy Easter, everyone!

Awesome! Maybe he could be the one I send the T_shirts too (I had another post on here about who to send it to)-- plus I have watches that I got that aren't exactly hubby's cup of tea (Chris, if you read this, let me know if the watches can be "unique" ) - and Target has a whole bunch of thumb drives on clearance!! I KNEW Ishoud have bought some.. maybe I can get back!
Chris - if you read this - maybe if WE supply the gifts (Even if small)- maybe you can round up the people to play!
I'll do what I can Marilyn.. after all, we have all enjoyed Chris' writings on here, so we should help him out!!

Chris - I hope you read this and can just hang on.. help is on its way from all of us:) and hopefully people will start coming back. But, exactly what are "tounaments"? does anyone else know?
Thanks
Lynn

They are having tournaments, contests in sports or other games where a series of elimination rounds are played until there is a winner.
I once sent a little Connect Four game to a Marine friend and he said the younger Marines were playing it constantly. They have to create their own fun and can make a game out of almost nothing.

Hello one and all....
You all just AMAZE ME!! I can't beleive how you all ALWAYS jump right on things and react so well to knew stuff. ANYTHING WILL DO! It doesn't matter what it is. If you want to send it, we will make a prize out of it! I donated two decks of "FullTilt" playing cards I had and a NEW DVD that one of you had previously sent.... Bourne Ultimatum! It all sounds GREAT!! Keep it up and only God knows what will happen next. YOU ALL ARE GREAT!!
I am sorry that SOMEONE doesn't play nice! BUT, if EVERYONE played nice... we wouldn't be HERE doing our stuff while you are THERE doing your stuff!

That you and I get along so awefully"
"You can please some of the people all the time. And, you can please all of the people some of the time. But, you can NEVER please all of the people all of the time!"
Do not worry about those who do not see things the way that YOU do. If you feel that what you are doing is right... then just NIKE it!.... I mean just do it!
Thank you all... all of YOU who care! Thank you all... all of you who dare!
May God bless you all who ever you are!
TTFN!!

Hi, Chris -- hope you all are doing well. Just wanted to let you know I put a box of my company's donated polo shirts & t-shirts in the mail to you today, plus a thumb drive.
Say -- do you guys need more games for your tournaments? Let us know!
Take care & stay safe!!!!

Hi Chris
funny to read the above post! because I am sending something that maybe you can use as a tournament.. you'll see when you get it.
I am going to send out the T-Shirts I have- a run walk in WI named after my Uncle.. if nothing else, they can be used to clean something if people don't want to wear them OR maybe you can use them as teams with the other shirts you get. I will get it out this week- also quite a few of the thumb drives, a good size water gun, watches, and some other things.. you just never know what I might put in there!
Oh I meant to add - I assume "female" prizes are ok? I have two very nice sterling silver necklaces that I got from Shnoop as a mystery bag (kinda pricy but I got them for a deal) but I don't wear sterling silver. would that be ok? If anyone knows, please post.
Hey at least this way, you'll get staggering packages:)
Take care Chris!

If anyone knows, please post. I wondered the same thing, so I asked SFC Dunn. He said YES, send female prizes, too. I didn't think about posting that info here... duh, me!

Today.... we got attacked by mortar shells... two fell very close to my room.... the further one exploded as the closer one hit... but it was a dud! I am in my room on the computer or sleeping during the day because I work 9pm to 9am. So, I was right there CLOSE when it hit. As we are attacked we are warned with an alarm which tells us to hit the ground and then move to bunkers that are all over the FOB. We have two against our outside wall (which happens to be where my room is so I am double protected). THAT is the routine of war....
The reality of war is..... WE GOT TWO BOXES TODAY FILLED WITH PRIZES!!!!!!!! Marilyn and Carol each sent a box of beautiful shirts, hats, magnets, a memory stick and a coffee mug. I came here to announce this and read the couple of new entries that have been posted. The amount of the generosity YOU ALL have just amazed me and almost brought me to tears. I started to write about the boxes and I realized that I FOUND OUT about the boxes while I was IN a bunker with one of our postal workers who mentioned it to me. What a bright and beautiful ending to what could have been a... well you know!
We are here doing a job and yes, things happen, but we are all making a living.... doing a job... that WE CHOSE to do. Our "company" pays us well and offers great benefits. It also rewards us when we do well, with medals... pins and coins. Most jobs that civilians work at do not give much of anything to the employees. You all are making this deployment for MANY people here VERY enjoyable and eye openning. The generosity has NOT gone un-noticed! I know that we can not even answer all the mail that comes in. I know that some of the soldiers gets mail and forgets to answer them. I want to apologize for that and to ask you to remember that most of them are kids who are still learning about life and thier place in it. Now all these prizes coming in... JUST UNBELEIVABLE!!
Thank you.... is not enough to convey what I feel in my heart for the gratitude that the American people have shown us!!! There are bad people in this world and there are people who don't care, but the generosity that EVERYONE ELSE is showing far out weighs, outshadows and OUTCASTS the things that they do! Thank YOU and may GOD bless ALL of YOU!!!

Chris
Thank God you are safe! I just picked up a few more things for you yesterday, so I will get my box out next week. REmember, that to us, it is not a "job" that you do, it is something that we can't quite put into words. You all are special... the angels of God that you are willing to sacrfice so much for us, people you don't even know. Consider us your extended family Chris! Tell everyone how much we care.. spread the word if you have to (lol) -- don't let one person ever forget how much we care back home. And NEVER apologize for someone not writing. WE don't support you all in the hopes of a reply, or thank you.. we do it because we believe in you, we want to show you how much we stand by you., how much we care and to let you all know nobody is forgotten. Getting replies or getting opportunities to talk to people like you are added bonuses:)
So, I do believe several more things are coming from reading this post:) -- so hopefully you can get more participation and bring some spirits up and maybe some more smiles:) that is all we ever hope for is that at least one person is smiling and that you all know regardlsss of the media or anything, there are tons of us who Care!!! We support you and we love you all for what you do!!
Again, thank God you are safe, ,, but don't thank us:) WE ARE THANKING YOU -- for everything that you and all the men and women serving are doing...........now go kick some you know what on those "bad guys" as my kids put it.. tell them love conquers evil all the time and we have enough love to conquer all of them!!
take care of youself!
Lynn (the "other " Lynn LOL)
PS_ HUG THAT POTSAL WORKER FOR ME. THAT "story" you wrote about him is pricelss!!

Oh, Chris -- it's so good to hear that you are safe -- what a shivering, goose-bump raising story!
I can't think of a single thing to add to (the other) Lynn's excellent post above, except to say that I agree with everything!!!! Well said, Lynn! Thank you!
And thank you, Chris -- for being you, and for serving there!
