post office lady tells me that APO boxes are only for shipping to APO's

The other day, I used the large APO flat rate box to ship some heavy items. She asked me where I got the box from, which I told her that I either got it at her post office or at another post office nearby, but I could not remember exactly. She asked me to wait, b/c she was going to ask her supervisor whether I can use that box. Then she came back and said that they'll let me use it this time for international, but that it is supposed to only be used for domestic, for shipping to APO's. I told her that I am shipping to an APO. Then she got really embarassed and said, "oh, sorry." Anyway, I was pissed for a whole day after that, but I am over it now. Big Smile

Yeah, I think some of us have had issues with the new boxes. Hopefully they will pay better attention from now on! *G*

I do a lot of copying at my local UPS store.  I would also rather mail packages there than go to the local post office.  When the owners of the UPS store found out that I was sending boxes to soldiers that I don't even know (they couldn't believe that!) they told me that they would charge me the flat rate box rate rather than adding an extra charge.  Now all the employees know it and give me that price.  I've even given out AnySoldier cards to some of them so they can mail packages too.

ABCgal - lol! Sorry you were pissed! It's funny you should mention this because when I took my first LARGE APO box to the PO, the lady behind the counter didn't know they had increased the size of the box.

It certainly pays to be informed ahead of time. I had a problem shipping in a designated APO/FPO box today (the 12" X 12" X 5.5" box).  The postal worker weighed it and was about to charge me $20!  He said I would have to repack it into the large Flat Rate Box (FRB1?) to get the lower rate. Somewhat miffed I pointed out that the box has the words ''APO/FPO Flat Rate Box'' printed on the side (The side he was looking at just says ''Priority Mail. America Supports You'').  He fixed the mistake and I paid $10.95, but if I hadn't know the specifics about how the Flat Rate Boxes work I would have paid almost double what it should have cost.
