     Gran:

I'm not sure what basketball-type shorts would be. Is it similar to what professional basketball players would wear? Would the inseam length be the key factor?

I don't have much on hand, but am sending some disposable razors.  It sounds as though lots of junkies are in on this one!

It breaks my heart, also, that I cannot send more.  I will at least help a few and will send more later.

    Hi Everyone:

I received a very eloquent e-mail from CSM Callaghan this morning thanking me for the boxes I sent. It was so sincere and poignant that it made me tear up. I think they are grateful for anything we can send.

I will ask him if they have a preference on the kind of shorts they need.  Also, will ask if they need stuff like magazines, paperback books, crossword/puzzle books, etc, for the patients.

I went to Wal Mart today to find more shorts but they didn't have any within this junkie's price range, but I'll keep looking and advise if I find any deals. Will be sending out towels and detergent in the next round.

I think he's going to be ecstatic with all the boxes everyone is sending, no matter what's inside, it shows you care.  Great effort!!

    Pam,

I'm guessing that the difference would be that the gym shorts would have about a 5" inseam and the basketball type would have from 6"-10" minimum length.  I don't know what any other difference would be.  Maybe they would show up on someone's clearance rack at some point, even if it were just a couple of pair at a time.  The cargo shorts have also been requested.

There's a lump in my throat the size of a golf ball. Anyone who thinks all the heroes are listed under "Where to Send" are so wrong.

When I came back I set myself all these firm guidelines -  do your best by the ones you have -  try not to help everyone a little but help a few a lot - if you spread yourself thin you burn out ...  but I don't know how I can hold onto that when I see these huge hearts here. Broken Heart

I've already earmarked my portion of 'mad money' from our tax return.   I'll look back and check if anything is needed.

If you send another email, would you point him to www.operationquietcomfort.com ? Lori Pate is head. We gather supplies for the field hospitals and have a 'ready line' of grooming kits, sweats, shorts, etc. for the units.

    Thanks, Mom

I will get a box out to him by week's end--my "store" is low, so will have to go out and shop!!   Pam, maybe his address is shorter because he is in Qatar.  It's great that everyone is coming together on this mission!!

Found some 100% cotton, elastic waist shorts in Dollar General for $4 per pair.  Bought 15 in dark colors( Med. and Lg.).

OK:) happy that I finally got the box out.. Ok Marty if you read this, I broke the rule on the weight limit.. sorry! but I sent like about 20 shirts I think?? and maybe 8 or so shorts???? and the 8 flip flops! not sure, and yeah I had to throw in some food too-- I don't know everthing I sent but it was indeed a heavy box. like well over 20 lbs.. so hopefully it will get there in a week and yes I insured it! And i used security tape to seal the the last "strip"

So hopefully with all of us doing something, this unit will know how much we care!!

I looked for bargain shorts online, and here's the best I found. The first two links are from Boscovs.com. They don't ship to APO. Boscov's also has good deals on towels.  The third link is from Campmor.com. Great price, but they only have size small.

Champion basic jersey short for $6.97

Russell unpocketed athletic short for $6.97

Russell athletic shorts for 99 cents,

Target's web site says the stores have Russell athletic shorts as low as $2.99, but my Target didn't have any.

I mailed 2 boxes this morning. I had 20 t-shirts and 12 shorts. I'm looking for less expensive shorts so that I can send more.

I know several of us have said it,, but isn't it amazing how we pull together to do what we can to help as many as we can? Is it just me, or do the rest of you actually get a smile on your face when you see that package go through the hands of the postal carrier?

I hope CSM Callaghan is feeling the LOVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    it's AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I'm sending a package that contains things that I know they really need, I usually give a big sigh of relief - and then a big smile - knowing that even though it's only one box, it's one more than they would have had if it wasn't for me.

And THAT is a great feeling. Smile

    Hey all,

Michaels Craft store has Jerzees T-shirts on sale this week for $1.89, regularly 3.99!! They come in many colors, size S-XL. If you have a Michaels in your area, this is a great deal. I plan to head there tomorrow!

I find it very gratifying to be part of a group project!  Even if we can't send everything they need, as Jenifer said, it's more than they would have without us!  There's a double benefit in this case; we're helping the wounded and probably cheering up those responsible for their care.

I found Jerzees and Fruit of the Loom cotton shorts today for $2.99 and sent another box with ten pairs.  They are lightweight, but should be comfortable.
