I got a huge box today with the croc-like shoes. They are a soft rubber-type material and my daughter and I both agree that they are much nicer than the ones sold at Walmart. They came in assorted size of 8-11 with the majority 9s and 10s. I'll get some in the mail tomorrow and ask him to let me know if they are acceptable as shower shoes. They have the holes for water to drain out. These were $5.25/pr but had to order 48 pair. I didn't check to see if they ship to APO because I wanted to see the quality. This was from www.dollardays.com.

    Hi

Got another e-mail yesterday. He said that the support they were receiving was immense. Go Junkies! They prefer gray cotton shorts, but any kind will do. Also, the support came just in time and helped them out a lot.

Thanks for letting us know about the email. He also posted an update today. Said they have about half of what they need. That is remarkable considering his first request appeared only two weeks ago.

    He is an articulate gentleman.

Oh, WOW!  Just read his update -- WOW!!!!!  (Thanks, Pam!)  This man is an inspiration, junkies!  Makes me feel truly blest to be a part of this --

inkydigits -- please, next time you e-mail him, please tell him that for me, would you?  Oh, and please tell him more t-shirts are on the way -- I mailed another 25 t-shirts on 4/12 -- and I have more to go out.  Do they still need laundry detergent?

    WOW!

    Hola Marilyn!

I think they need laundry detergent...lots of it..throughout their deployment. I sent a box of powder out last week with more stuff like towels, t-shirts etc. and I found another bag of towels I bought and forgot about...so I'll be washing those and sending them out with more detergent and t-shirts. They're going to be there for a while and with all the shirts, shorts and stuff everyone is sending,  Big Smile  I think they're going to be doing lots of laundry!  I sent some crossword puzzles, sudoku books, pens and some small books too thinking the patients might be need a little entertainment. I replied to his e-mail earlier today but I will drop him a line on your behalf. Go Junkies, go!

    Take care,

    Jen

Wow!  CSM Callaghan sounds like a very compassionate man.  Our young men and women are lucky to have such a leader!

His post appeared today while I was at the post office mailing more tshirts and shorts.  I'm afraid I mailed the wrong shorts, but next weekend I will try to find gray cotton ones. The need for these things will not go away, so I will keep my eye out for the ones they prefer.

I noticed from his post that he didn't mention receiving laundry detergent, and with limited clothes, I'm sure they will be burning up the washing machines!  I will try to pick some up tomorrow after work.  He also didn't mention receiving hygiene items.  I wonder if full size or travel size is more appropriate?   It is so hard to know what to send first.

I know some have stormed the desert with cards; maybe for this unit some get well soon cards would be appropriate.  I sent a half dozen today.  I hope they serve to let those young men know there are people back home that think of them often!

If anyone else gets updates on preferences or critical needs, please keep us informed.  Together, we can help take care of this group.

Check out this link.  They have Army shirts for $1.  Do you think it is too good to be true?

    Inkydigits-

I sent you an email. I just ordered 20 more shirts and shorts from that site and had them shipped directly to him,, in case you don't get your email: the site did not offer the choice to include a note, so could you please tell him that in the next couple of weeks he'll get a box from that store (military apparel and gear [uspt gear[ ) and that it was sent from a supporter, so it is valid  lol

    thanks!

There is a good variety of shirts and things on clearance here, even have women's sizes. Best of all they ship directly to your contact.

Kmart.com has gray athletic shorts marked down to $6. They do ship to APO/FPO.

They are a cotton blend and have a stripe down the side, but I think they are close enough to what he wants.

    blix:

Found some 100% cotton, elastic waist shorts in Dollar General for $4 per pair.

I made it to Dollar General, and these are exactly what I was looking for! I bought 3 pairs, 2 gray and 1 navy blue. (Wish I could have gotten more, but that's all the budget will allow right now.)

Re: CSM Jerry R. Callaghan - help Wounded Warriors

Found the longer knit shorts at Kmart online marked down from $5.99 to $4.00, but they are the blends.  Since they won't be wearing them on missions, I went ahead and ordered, but had to pick and choose the sizes, colors and quantities for a while before I came up with an instock complete order.  They would only allow us to get 4 max of any size, and color, so we got 4 Med. and 4 Lg. in the heather gray and 4 Lg. and 2 Med. in the Delft blue.  It will probably be a week or more before we get them, and we plan to send some detergent and towels also.  It sounds like the t-shirts are covered for a little while, so we were working on the longer shorts.  We just ordered a couple of hours ago and of course, we haven't gotten word yet that they have been shipped, just hoping it works out.  I was just happy to find the longer gray ones at a reasonable price.

     Gran:

Where on Kmart's website did you find that price? I couldn't find it. Or maybe you bought them all?

I picked up a few gray cotton shorts today. I agree it sounds like he should have enough T shirts for a while.

I still can't get over the fact that they don't have this stuff. I feel like writing my congressman about it.
