    Amateur Hour!

I'm always looking at this "tactical" thread waiting for something cool to pop up I can send and it's so underused! I was thinking, there's actually lot's of little "amateur" tactical things I send that it would probably make a pretty cool list if I could find out what other junkies did too. I'm not thinking I'll ever be able to go to the surplus and impress the veteran there with my tactical kung fu, but I do feel a little wise when I put these little helpers in a care package and I bet there's a lot more of em I could be getting for our guys! So anyway... here's my "tactical" thingys I've sent, if you'll share yours!? I guess I consider everything not food, hygeine or entertainment tactical though, now I'll get some "real" ideas! : )

Gerber and Swiss Army pocket knives

    Red lense headlamps

    Battery alarm clocks

Carabiners (D rings? although no feedback so i have no idea if i sent the "right" kind)

Rem gun oil and paint brushes and qtips

Multi tools (i think they were Leatherman from Sears)

Mylar emergency blankets (although got no feedback so i have no idea)

Big screw in bicycle type hooks and little sticky wall hooks - i don't know, but i figured they'd find a use!

Shelly - I've sent some of the same items you have listed.

One thing I found & that has gotten good comments is the type of Carabiners (D rings) made for keys.  Small lil 'D ring' with the ring for keys.  I get them in black.  What they tell me is that they are used to attached everything to their vest.  Just feed the lil key ring thru the item & presto instant handy D ring.

Also another item that I have sent each person may not fit in 'tactical' but I send a plain ole can opener.  The larger kitchen type with the big wide handle ... never know when a honest to goodness can opener will come in handy.  A good P38 & it's big brother a P51 work but you can't beat a plain ole can opener in my book.

     Hi,

Where do you get the Carabiners?  I've seen them mentioned before and wondered if there is a particulare size,

or quality.  Are there various ones to hold different weights?

Sorry for so many questions, but just wanted to send the right thing.

    Thanks,

    Joy

I believe you can get the carabiners at just about any sporting goods store, like REI. I happened to be buying something else on Amazon and ordered them there. I always hear about the D shaped ones but I got the non locking ones and don't know if the locking is better or not. I know they don't want the silver ones because they stand out, so I found black but I think there's other colors like green too.
