    Need a couple contacts...

Started filling out customs forms this morning for another round of Care Packages from the School.

Of course I should have checked AS websight prior.  2  out of 10 of our contacts are now over 60 days without contact.

I don't really want to request a new address to replace these contacts at this time, as this might be the last round of boxes from the school this year. And I don't want to over inflate the contacts requests..

So If anyone has a contact who you think would enjoy a single box from a bunch of elementary school kids please contact me.

I also have a Bag full of  Beanie Baby type of  toys. Anyone have a contcat at an Orphanage or working rebuilding a school?

I have a nice young lady in Serbia but she is expected to leave Early next month.  I really would hate to have the box end up in Limbo because of her leaveing and the box being a day or two late..

Either PM me or email me  southwickcares@gmail.com

    or AIM  fortwaynefish

We've recieved Sgt Althea Cummings address and will be sending her and her  group  ( 18males/ 50 woman ) a couple boxes. This will definetly make up for a couple contacts that are  on 50 day no contact.

We still could use a couple more contacts ..............Big Smile

Well We have about 10 boxes ready to go for SGT Althea Cummings.

Most of them are FEM Hygiene, or snack items.  With 50 Women I am sure they can use the items.

Wish her address was shorter-  writers cramp....

    Hi SouthWick,

I sent a female hygiene kit to Althea Cummings from TreatAnySoldier on 4/9 as they mail faster than I do.

That is wonderfurl that you have 10 boxes for her.  I know they will use all the items that you are so generously sending to her.  God Bless all the children from your school.

Althea has 3 boxes enroute shipped 4/16  we still need to ship 7 more, but with over 90 Care Packages to send it takes more then one trip especially when time is limited to after work hours...

    Operation SouthWIck Cares 2008
The kids brought in  over $1100 in this years penny drive to pay for the shipping of the Soldier Care Packages. In total the kids packed 108 boxes,  not bad for a elementary school where over 80% of the kids are on the Free or reduced lunch program.

below are a couple links from the Care Package drive held 4/11/08 .

These kids are guardian angels to the troops.  I am so proud of these young men and young women to be so inspiring to all of us.  They have Huge Hearts, as Marilyn would say.  I would say they are outstanding.

I'd like to THANK EVERYONE for there help. We have all 93 boxes  labeled and  waiting transport to the  Post Office.   It looks like Saturday will find me  at the PO for a couple Hours. Luckily I won't be alone...Yes

Wonder what Marty's Post Office would think If I showed up with say 50 Care packages to Ship?  We are only 10 miles or so away from his Indiana Home town.

Wonder if they are used to AnySoldier Care Packages by now?

That's incredible.  Does a project like this get any media coverage?  I don't think most people are aware that groups are sending care packages to Servicemen all year 'round.  Cool

    Re: Need a couple contacts...

The school doesn't actually send boxes all year round. The school did a Care Package drive in November 2006, and another this year.  so Two school years in a row.

Last Year one of our contacts was a family member, so his unit got packages all year round. We also adopted another soldier and sent her Packages all year round.

So  we only truthfully sent Packages to Two contacts all year round in 2006-2007

This year we have 3 Local soldiers as contacts.  If we get a GOOD response from the Soldiers or from their family members  We will adopt these three contacts all year round.

This year I am also trying to team up some contacts with some older Students as PenPals.Sometimes this is hard as I know that the students will probally loose intrest in exchanging  mail with a soldier, to a kid 10 yrs old a month wait for a reply can be an internity..

Last year we got some media coverage, but this year with so many delays due to scheduling and weather.  We didn't get any media coverage. Which truthfully was fine with us..

    Rob,

What a terrific project for you and the kids to undertake! Seeing all those boxes stacked up is really overwhelming!!  Please tell the kids how AWESOME we think they are for taking such good care of the soldiers.

By the way, in case you missed it--Ryan posted on Sunday (I think that was the day) and he left Iraq Monday! He should be home in Iowa soon.  He thanks everyone for all the birthday wishes he received last month!!

What an awesome project!  The kids should feel really good about doing this and the joy it will bring to others.

How long did it take to process all the packages at the post office?

    Re: Need a couple contacts...

we actually ended up doing the boxes in three trips..   10 on friday, 63 on Saturday  we had 15 boxes left to send which where suppose to ship last week but things prevented us from getting them in the mail.  the 15 remaining boxes have multiplied amazingly and we now have 22 or 23 boxes to ship.

63 boxes took from 11:15am - 1:00pm   we had a Quick teller, who was excited to be helping..
