SGT Michael R. McCloskey - fire

Junkie Alert!  SGT Michael R. McCloskey (U.S. Army/Iraq) just posted today (4/13/08) that he came back from a mission to find that his tent had caught fire and he's lost everything -- and so has his section.  He is a contact for 12 males/1 female.

He's asking for "anything that you could think someone would need to start over in Iraq."  It's really sad, because when his computer was destroyed, he lost all his digital photos of his son and family. Sad

    Thanks!

I have gotten his contact info and will be sending him a couple basic Care Packages from the School.

    (2) boxes Hygiene and (1) box of snacks

Nothing I can do to replace the computer or his personal pictures..kind of sad he wasn't home to see birth of his son and now all his pictures have been lost because of the fire.

Just requested his address and will get off a couple of boxes with towels, travel size pillows and pillowcases, and hygiene gear on April 16.  Will order online and have shipped directly to him t-shirts and green army socks in a variety of sizes.

OK, 25 t-shirts and 25 pairs of socks were ordered online and should ship tomorrow.  I remembered that I also have a stash of flip-flops so will send those along for their shower shoes.

We have towels, toothpaste and brushes and lip balm and cotton swabs and whatever small things will fit in with the towels.

I found some new sheet sets (4) that I haven't sent out yet so I'll wash them and pack them up. Also, I managed to scrounge up a box of hygiene stuff, washcloths and shower scrunchies.

We got one military box packed up to head out to the PO tomorrow - 5-6 each of towels and wash cloths, lip balms, and swabs, 1.5 oz. toothpaste and toothbrushes.  One thing that we were lacking is clippers - we only had on hand one fingernail clipper and one toenail clipper.  Some of you might want to add those if you have the time.  We didn't want to hold up the box for those.  Just wanted to make that suggestion.

I sent out 2 complete hygeine sets (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, tooth paste/brushes) as well as towels, wash clothes, and bed sheets yesterday. I will be sending another set out next week if they still have a need.

Oh, I feel so bad for this man.  Losing his pictures and everything else.

In a case like this, do they get a new tent set up immediately? Access to electricity?  I have new sheets on hand but they're aqua blue and kinda girly. Did anyone else send feminine looking sheets for the 1 female? If not, I will. I also have 2 flat sheets that are solid dark green. Think I should send them or wait till I have the fitted ones to go with them? I know it's an emergency, but guys are still guys and I want to tailor my package to Most Needed Stuff.

Turns out I sent a coordinated (not matching) set of sheets with a starfish theme. Androgynous. Sent also loofas, notecards,

drill bit set, pencils, an encouraging book called A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23.  I hope these guys are getting the packages in less time than usual. That'd be wonderful.
