    Fruit cups?

As anyone sent things like Dole Fruit cups - the individual plastic cups?

I bought some, but then got to wondering if the fruit would end up tasting like plastic?

I have sent them and no one has complained BUT if you do, double or triple wrap them in plastic baggies. You may want to consider sending the small cans of fruit with the pop top lids to avoid the potential leakage problem, also they cost less and have more per can ( and with the FOB weight issue, it's economical to mail cans).

We haven't sent the cups - we send the small cans with the pop-top lids - but I expect that they don't taste much different from the canned fruit.  It isn't fresh, so it won't taste like fresh fruit no matter how you send it.  It seems to me that as many now are asking for dried fruit as anything, though, and now it is available in so many varieties.  We do send the pudding cups in the plastic.  I don't think it would make quite as big a mess if it got squished as the fruit with all the liquid in it.

I bought some for my guys in Afghany-land.  Later I decided that the cups would not make the trip, they were too flimsy.  So we ate the fruit - it was good,  Stick out tongue just like canned fruit (no plastic taste.)  I went back to the pull-top cans, I think they have better chance to survive the trip.  Good luck, maybe it will work for You, I just hate to waste space in the box on extra packing material.

Another vote for the cans.  Once I accidentally knocked some plastic fruit cups off the supermarket shelf, and they didn't survive the fall onto the floor.

    Re: Fruit cups?

I've considered sending various foods in plastic cups (there's some really tasty salmon and tuna cups on the market too) but have never found a sturdy container the right size to pack them in to protect them during shipping. I'm kind of rough with my groceries and have had the plastic cups break on me before just in bringing them home.

I've been sending a lot of the the Welch's dried fruit pouches because almost all of "my guys" seem to be out in the field on extended missions most of the time. If there happens to be room in the package, I'll throw in a box of Sponge Bob Cravin Raisins too. One of my contacts has mentioned that they need food they can just carry in their pockets and that he craves fruit, but he's never given specific feedback on what I've sent.

Thanks everyone. Looks like I'll be eating some fruit cups.

And after reading this forum, I don't think I'm packing anywhere near well enough.

I'll check for threads on how to get things there with out becoming a package of crumbs.

I've sent fruit in the plastic cups lots of times, and haven't heard that they didn't make the trip, and have been thanked for sending fruit - so I'm assuming they got there in one piece. I also send pudding cups which are in plastic.

I also send cans of fruit, large and small, as they do seem to be cheaper, and send dried fruit on a very regular basis.
