white socks what you should know

Just to let every one out there know, yes we like white socks, but we prefer the ones that are only ankle high for the majority.

    Thanks

Does that apply also, when they request black or green socks?

    Thanks,

no, only on the white ones, the black or green should be calf high otherwise they creep down into our boots.

Thanks for the timely info.  A new contact I'll be sending to next week asked for both black and white socks - I was not sure which style was best (there's so many to choose from anymore)

I found six pair of cotton white socks (Quarter Height - over ankle) for just $3.49 at a Big Lots store.  They probably aren't top quality but looked OK - better than a pair that are totally worn out.

That shows that prices seem to rise as you go west from here - Mr. Gran paid $3.33 for those about 2 weeks ago at Big Lots.

     Off Topic....

Michelle,   "Watch you Topknot" We just sent this movie a few weeks ago to our son!! It was one that we have watched for so many years we thought that it would be a familiar bit of home. He called and really enjoyed it. Sometimes it's just the little things that mean so much.

Hey Alison!  It's those kind of little things that sometimes only the Mama knows!  I hope he is doing alright!  Keep us updated on him [and your nephew]!

Hope you're talking about the movie, "Jeremiah Johnson"; that's the only place I think I ever heard the phrase.  I use it in the majority of my correspondence with our Heroes.  I think . . . no . . .  I know Hubby has the whole movie memorized.

    Hey Michelle,

Not a problem I plan on being on here for a long time. I know that a lot of stuff ends up in the trash or used for other things. There is a program out there for example, Socks for Soldiers, we just had to take two boxes of sock over to the detainee hoding areas to use for rags because no body wanted them. That and I see a lot of other things end up in the trash. So I figured if I answered the questions it owuld keep people from wasting thier money on things that weren't being used. Any way better get moving on, take care and talk to you later.

Our grandson's unit was so glutted with white socks at one time and were wondering how to use them, so when they ran out of coffee filters, guess what they substituted for them.  He said that they worked okay.

Hey, Sgt Chris -- You know what -- I have a contact in Afghanistan who is doing humanitarian outreach for the ANA soldiers, their children on base and a local orphanage.  I just thought -- if the socks are useable and no one wants them at your place, any chance you could send to him?  He said some of them are wearing ripped and torn socks ......

Let me know what you think -- thanks!

I just wanted to add that Ssg Harold Cooper, who is probably nearing his 50 day notice has a large group and is always mentioning needing socks. I have sent some but certainly I cannot take care of 150+ .
