I had to sit and read this whole thread ...it was too funny, reminded me of so many things ... The story of Tony's truck taking a swim .. reminded me when my son did the same thing with the Nissan Pick-up I gave him .... He swore up and down that truck was as big as the rest of those mud stompers ... And for a while it kept up fairly well .. till the day it went for a swim in the Sabine River
.... I remembered some of the stunts we pulled as kids so I let him walk for a while ... which I thought might cure his fascination with the mud but I was wrong there ... he just joined the Army and became a transportation specialist .... so now he gets to play with their mud buggies
Most of my life I have lived in Texas but I also lived in Florida and Louisiana when I was younger. And most of my Dad's side of the family was from Oklahoma ... So I have a real mix of quirky phrases.
I try very hard to watch my grammar, but it is a lost cause. I am forever catching myself saying stuff like "I seen it over there" instead of "I saw" and I don't dare tell anyone what I am doing if I happen to be sealing something (such as windows or tub) with caulk.... It comes out "I'm cocking the windows" ... anymore if I can't find it in the hardware store on my own ... I just ask where the goop is used to seal windows (even though I know what it's called).... at all cost, that is a word I avoid saying ... and if I have to say it.. I think real hard about pronouncing it correctly. And say it slowly! Words like pipes and lights have very very long I's but I pronounce quarter and yesterday like someone from south Louisiana. which is qwarter and yestaday
Gravy to me is cream (white) and goes on bisquits, mash potatoes, chicken strips and chicken fried steak.
mayonnaise is Miracle Whip Salad Dressing ... which is very good on pinto beans .. except this I acquired from my grandfather who was from West Virginia and Tennessee
and for Thanksgiving Dinner ... the turkey is Cajun Fried... which means it gets injected with spices and dropped whole into a big Turkey Fryer
And Bar-B-Q is beef brisket ...sometimes chicken ...but never pork
But unlike a lot of southners I eat lemon on my seafood ... not tartar sauce
