    Chocolate

Ooops, I was not thinking the other day (Friday 4/18/08) and sent some little Debbie snacks and one of them was the Nutty Bars (choc). Do you think they made it ok. Or were they melted all over the place?

Ooh, those melted all over the place.  If they're delivered to a place with good airconditioning they might be semi-recoverable since I'm pretty sure Little Debbies are individually plastic wrapped.

It's time to switch to Go-Tarts, Clif Bars (chocolate brownie and chocolate almond fudge are pretty good but I haven't tested the chocolate chip flavor for heat resistance yet), and chocolate protien powders (GNC, Syntha-6 and Muscle Milk are all quite tasty, the others I've tried have been kind of blech)

Hey guys - I found some neat Betty Crocker no bake desert mixes at Big Lots yesterday. There was fudge truffles, heath bar, and almond joy bar. The bars come with their own pan and just require butter and water and some mixing and chilling.I am going to make a couple to see how they come out. I have done the no bake cheesecakes before and they are not too bad!

I was thinking something like that might work for the chocolate cravings in the summer for the soldiers - assuming that they could get a little butter from the chow hall maybe. What do you guys think?

I was at Big Lots today and they had these mini dessert bowls by Betty Crocker. You open the packet, mix with water and throw it in the microwave. I am going to send them out and see what the group has to say. It was 50cents for 2 of them, so well worth the experiment.

These sound like the Warm Delights. I've sent these, the mini and the regular sized ones, and tried one myself. It was quite tasty, and easy to make!

I send the regular sized ones in birthday boxes, in place of a "real" birthday cake.

    Re: Chocolate

I got three dozen of those Warm Delights last month for $1 each at Safeway, but reconsidered them to be 'cold weather' food & decided to hang on to them [duh].  Thanks for bringing it up!  I'll get 'em out soon.  Besides they'll probably be expired by Autumn [duh duh].  Birthday cakes . . . what a great idea Jenifer!! [duh duh duh]

One consideration for chocolate at heat index hell is ordinary Oreos. They seem to travel okay, maybe a little scary that the filling doesnt melt (laughter). Before 100 degrees, M&Ms still travel, after 100 degrees, sometimes I send Hershey's Chocolate syrup (along with a coffee box of grounds, filters, dry creamer).  There's been more than one thread on this and some of the ideas brought forth are terrific.

Surprise YAY! I sent choclate chips cookies!! LOL I just figured my contact was asking for it and when he asks I send, but I was smart and instead of buying the super chocolate chunk I sent the small mini chips with the harder cookies so even if it melts I am sure he'll just lick the chocolate out of the bottom of the box! LOL I also sent the fudge drizzled ones, I am thinking the same thing if it melts oh well he'll still have chocolate and he can always put them in his minifridge get them nice and firmed up and when he eats them it may only have  fudge on one side but he'll still get the taste! LOL Desperate times call for desperate measures. However I dont think I would advocate sending chocolate chips anytime soon! LOL It WOULD end up like chocolate syrup! Hee hee too funny.....I could just see there eyes opening up the box with chocolate covering everything! hee hee!Stick out tongue

Walmart has CHOCOLATE Skittles in the box.  These Skittles are in the area where the other boxed-style movie theater type candies are.  I will double bag them, but I think Skittles will make it o.k.

Hmm - chocolate skittles sound interesting. Might have to try those just to make sure they are good enough for the soldiers - lol.

I buy 5 lb bags of mini tootsie rolls at Sams Club and send those through the warm months. They do get gooey when it gets really hot, but I've been told they really like them and just lick them off the wrappers.

Surprisingly a very recent post asked for chocolates, said Hersheys were  OK.  They are in Afgh, FOB Salerno, wherever that is.  So I sent him some, big boxes of variety candy bars from Costco.  Curious to see how they arrive.

    Re: Chocolate

I had a contact at Salerno who loved chocolate.  I think Salerno is in the mountains, so it might be a little less roasty toasty there than some areas, but I do remember that chocolate still melted during the summer and I only sent it in the cooler months.  Candy bars that are totally sealed and not in wrappers that are just folded shut are less likely to make a mess in a package and can be put into a fridge to solidify.

Something I found this weekend and sent to my son in A-stan is the choc. chip cookie dipping sticks with the choc.frosting-like sauce.  They look like the cheese and bread sticks sets.  Individually packaged like for school lunches.  I figured since they are factory sealed they would survive the trip.  I'll post when I get that information.

We have sent chocolate pudding cups with butter cookies or Sandies.  Can someone tell me since we don't eat them ourselves if some brand of pudding cups are better than others?
