oops I did it again-- was inspired by the CNN nomination.. and well one more vote for hope!
All,
After being inspired by the CNN story I started to think more.. and decided to act upon an idea I had a while back.
Ok it is a long shot, but I went to ellentv.com (Ellen Degneras show) and wrote her about Marty and this organization. under be on the show> inspiring story (people I should know) Ihave to admit I like her show, though I rarely get to watch it bec of work.. but I know she does a lot of good things,, she is a sincere person. I asked her to recognize him and bring recognition to this great cause.
while you are laughing, it gets better:) I originally intended to write her to help me get Toby Keith and the other artists who write about the war (songs) to have a benefit concert-- see? I like thinking big.. hey, if I don't try, it won't happen, but at least this way I can hope.. you just never know.. It was hard to put things down into words, but I did my best
no, not asking everyone to do the same, i figured you guys might want to see who is the biggest nut of us all lol
Thank you Marty et all forever for this site. .hopefully some day, this orgnization won't be "needed" so much but rather becomes a "treat" (if you know what I mean)
your fellow junkie

Lynn, that's fantastic! I like "thinking big!" Everything that happens starts somewhere, ya know? And I don't think it's such a long shot - I don't know how anyone could log on to AS and not be blown away. I've never watched the Ellen show, but I like her in general. If you think it would help to have more submissions, let us know and I'll put one in.

They always say there is power in numbers, so who knows.
What this is is the normal submission of "to get on the show" - it's not a contest, so we're good there. I have seen plenty of times where she has selected people from this category.. they read them a lot.
so, hey you never know right?

I love Ellen, and she does do a lot of good things.
I always get stuck on what to say about the program, is someone willing to share what they write and I'lll send her an email too. (i'll just cut and paste)
Also she has an 800 number you can call to leave her a message. She hears them, that is how they got that funny lady from Texas.

Great reminder on the 800# :) I forgot.
I might have to call too. I sent two (I had to correct myself on the TV station lol)
I don't remember what I wrote verbatim.. I inserted the site, explained how Marty's one simple initiative has turned into a non profit org that touches the soldiers and citizens in ways unimaginable. I wrote it as if I was writing a friend.
I will call too,, but the show is on a hiaitus until the fall, but I am sure they check things during the summer.
I'll just keep leaving messages lol

Hello!
Thanks for the great ideas, it made me think of one similar. Have you ever watched the ABC or NBC World News broadcasts before? Well at the end of each week (Fridays) they take nominations that they have received and choose a "person-of-the-week". They explain why this person/group is their nominee for the week and how you might be able to help them or their organization out. What do you think? Is this idea worth pursuing?

I poured my heart out in an e-mail to Ellen DeGeneres earlier today and just now to the Oprah Show. The more people they hear from the more they may notice. Marty and his crew deserve so much in life and exposure on any of those shows would certainly bring us more supporters. There just can't be enough supporters for our young men and women. This has become such a PASSION in my life. It has saved me from thinking that age 62 is the end of it all. Now I feel invincible. I am DOING something important.

Re: oops I did it again-- was inspired by the CNN nomination.. and well one more vote for hope!
worth a shot, right?
I actually emailed a radio personality here in Chicago a while back..Along with all the newspapers I could find addresses for, trying to get them to promote AnySoldier.com.
I actually emailed Kathy Griffin too, I saw on her show that she went and perfomed for the troops so I thought she'd be a good person to hit up for some AS acknowledgement/support.
Sadly, nothing came of this effort. I DID receive a response from the radio personality...(Kathy of the Eric and Kathy morning show on 101.9FM the MIX in Chicago) stating that she does indeed support the troops, etc.
I don't know...maybe if you guys/gals sent letters/emails to publications, radio stations, tv, skywriting..whatever, in your areas, someone will pick up the story and wah-lah! Publicity for AS.
Thoughts?

From the shows I have seen, it appears that Montel Williams is highly supportive of the military, having been in for about 20 yrs. himself, and especially it seems when a young person starts a project to help them. If a young person was involved in an AS project, I'm sure he would want to hear about it, but he may have a whole season lined up with shows by now.
It seems that I have heard that he is a spokesperson for disabled veterans, or some such thing.

Hello all! I was just catching up on this post and had a couple more ideas about people to write to; I'll just list them for now (any feedback on whether or not these are good ideas would be appreciated!):
Rachael Ray (she sometimes interviews people), and Dr. Phil (during the Christmas holiday season especially, he asks his audience to help out certain organizations through collections)
By the way, has anyone heard back from any of these organizations, or are they all on summer holidays?
