     Hey Ann -

I know non holiday time, some of my care packages have taken 8 days from California to get to Iraq.  A letter from Afghanistan last month took 17 days to reach our home.

Hi Ann, the last letter I received from Iraq took about 2 weeks to arrive, (Seeing that Free Mail in the box always brings a smile, doesn't it?) On the other hand, lately my packages have been getting to Iraq in about 8 days. I sent one earlier this month that arrived in only 7 days--that seems pretty fast, as I am mailing from Texas.

Ann, I think the APO is in Plattsburgh NY.  I have 2 soldiers who live on the same base, which from what I understand also happens to be a major airport, and one of them explained to me that they get my packages and letters in 4 days: it takes one day to get to the APO, one day to get to JFK, one day to get to Germany, and one more day to land at their base.  So depending on where they are, our mail could get out pretty fast!  I know it takes letters 4 days to get from Parsippany to East Lansing, so I'm thinking 4 days to Iraq is pretty impressive!

    Re: Pace of the Mails

Thanks everyone for your replies.  Seems like it varies depending on where it's mailed in the states and where it's going to.  I guess Afghanistan takes longer and I know it costs me more to mail to places like CO and TX here at home.  I wonder if that has anything to do with length of time because sometimes it takes a few days for mail to get from here to either one of those states.

Mary - Is that Flamigo TX as in the bird?  How cool>

I sent a package to Afgan on Sat 4/19 and recd an email reply back on Thursday 4/24 in the AM! Wow! LCDR Pethel was most appreciative of the requested hygiene items and still needs stuff for the sand sailors and USA guys and gals serving at the FOB.
