    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi Coach Mark, I am very new at this and was hoping you could tell me how to go about introducing myself. The only thing I knew to do was to reply to your post. How do I start a post to give more information about myself? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Margaret

    Thanks Jenifer,

I'm so grateful for all who serve in the military and have always been very patriotic. Who doesn't get teary eyed when they pass in a parade? I have three brothers who had served our great country in the armed forces. My ex moved here from Scottland, became a citizen and volenteered for a tour in Vietnam. He passed away a few years ago from cancer, but I have never known a man more proud to be an American. I also have a nephew serving in Iraq. It doesn't matter to me if they are in harms way, or working in an office, each and everyone of them are braver than I could ever hope to be and I remember them in my prays daily. I felt very frustrated though, because though I know prayer is the best we can do for them, I wanted to do more but didn't know how to go about it. I am so happy to have found AnySoldier.com.

Hi, Margaret!  Welcome to the Forum!  You sound just like me.  I was frustrated, too, until discovering this website.  Now I'm glad to know that I actually have a hand in helping our troops stay warm, fed, uplifted, and entertained.

Ooops I don't know how I messed that up, but the quote was supposed to read, " For those who fought, freedom has a flavor the protected will never know." author unknown.

Hi, my name is Terri and I have a son in the Navy and a daughter in the Army. No other children so home is lonely without them. They both joined and left within a week of each other which left me an empty nester.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Heavens!  That had to be a shock to your system, Terri.  I've been a semi-empty nester for a while with my older one out of the house and younger one at college.  He's getting married next week, so then our nest will truly be empty.  Having both of your kids leave at the same time and them being so far away has got to be tough.  I hope you will be able to talk to them during the holidays.

Yes Janet it was a shock and took me the better part of a year to get out of the depression...Now I get to look forward to taking off the 20 or so pounds I packed on from the depression eating...lol. I do get to chat with my daughter daily..but the phone bills are outrageous! My son calls whenever he is in port and he will be home for the first time in a year on the 30th of December. I can't wait! We are hoping our daughter will be home in time to see him before he heads back to Japan. She is suppose to be home sometime in January, we were told around the 3rd, but now she is not so sure.

Good luck with your Christmas wedding! How exciting! You will have to let me know how that goes.

Hello, my name is Joan and I have been an AnySoldier Junkie for over a year.  I do not have any family/friends deployed.  I am glad that AnySoldier is available as a means of directly supporting our troops.  My huband and I take our work sending care packages very seriously.  But we have fun.

Hello, my name is Dave.  My biological grandfather was a P47 pilot for the US Army during WWII.  I was adopted in 1968 and met my biological mother when I was 25.  I don't have any relatives in the service now.  I had been looking for a way to support the troops since the first gulf war.  This site really relieved some frustration.  I just want to say thank you to the service men and women of the US armed forces.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi and welcome Dave, Joan, Terri and Margaret! I'm not sure if it's the new logon required board or the holidays or just more people finding the forum, but it's sure great to see so many newbies! I was supporting our troops for almost 6 months on Anysoldier before I even found the forum and then when I did, I lurked a while, because you know, it seems like maybe it could be a private club. But I have been so glad i came out of hiding. I have met some AMAZING people, had the opportunity to share my soldier joys and saddnesses with people who understand and of course learned a whole new level of OCD soldier support! And I couldn't list all the great ideas and help I've gotten here if I took the rest of the space. I hope you all find it as great an experience as I have. I look forward to sharing with you! Shelly
