Excellent! I just signed on to "adopt" another soldier to send to and was planning on finding a local to share my shoveling woes with and there you are Christian, prepare for a letter and a box!!!!!  ...  I am off now to put it together, this site is excellent, hello to everyone on this forum, I usually send to those with the fewest address requested but I am excited to write to a local!!! Unless you have had the experience of using a snow blower then having the snow so high the you have to manually heave it up and over... is it sad when ben gay is the purrrfume I use the most lately??

    Christian-

You are doing just fine. As long as you post regularly to the contact list to update us on the happenings of your squad and what you need, and check in with us on the Forum, you will be great.

It's snowing in  Northern California  right now.    Some of the supporters know that my son in law who is Navy, is deployed right now, and our daughter is back home with us while he's gone.  They decided to move her back home, because she is preparing to have their first baby.   Today might be the day!  Time will tell.  Sleep well, Christian.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi Christian- I went to HS in MA long time ago (20 years!) and I haven't been back since my 15th reunion... and it was even more beautiful than I remembered.  My brother in law came from a desert enviornment (Canary Islands) and I remember when we once picked him up in the Boston airport and then drove 2 hrs across state to western Mass... the whole time he just marveled about all the trees.  I think of you in a reverse situation ... just on and on... dust (or mud) and none of the forests of home.

Well, welcome to AnySoldier and thank you so much for your service to our country.

    Hi Sara,

Where in Mass did you go?

You are totally right about the open dirt/sand/mud here... back home we have beautiful green trees and blue water.  When I went home last time, I was so used to the sand tan colors, that even looking at guys black boots, looked totally odd.

    So what do you do?

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Welcome Christian.  It's always such a joy when one of our military members joins us.  It's really an honor to be able to "talk" to you directly.

As others have already said, if you need anything, just ask.  This site is great on its own, but now that we get to speak to our military members, it's really GREAT!!!

May God bless all of you & yours and keep you close.  Thank you for all you're doing for our country.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Greetings fellow junkies!  I have been sending pacakages to troops since the Persian Gulf War.  I started by sending stuff to my brother and his buddies would ask him to ask me for things. Back then they asked for mostly batteries, phone cards, hard candy and bandanas. My first package to this war zone was to my brother in law who requested sunscreen and "whatever else I could think of". Since I joined Any Soldier I have sent over 500 packages. At first I paid for it all myself, then I enlisted my company to give me a buget line item for postage. That made a big difference. I also made a request to all my coworkers for donations. Now I send out about two packages a week, sometimes as many as ten.

I have a son in the Air Force and I send him a Mom package every month or so.His classmates see him walking home from the post office with a box and descend on him like vultures.  The most requested items from him and from my troops overseas are JERKY and M&Ms.

Hey all! I'm a newbie and by my username, you can see that I am a Troop Leader for a group of Junior Girl Scouts in Arizona!  I found this site in doing some research for our Troops GIft of Caring project.

Can't wait to get to know everyone here!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    HI GirlScoutMom,

Welcome to the site.  You're going to love it here.  It is so cool that you're a Girl Scout Mom since many of our soldiers ask for letters/cards from kids.  Are the Junior Girl Scouts the really young girls?  If so, the guys will love getting stuff from them.  Of course they'd appreciate it from girls that were older too, but I think there's something so precious in the innocence of the "little" kids.

    Again, a Big Welcome.

    Hugs,

    Sharon

Welcome, GirlScoutMom!  I was a Troop Leader for my daughter's group when she was a Junior Girl Scout.  It would be great if your girls could "adopt" a soldier.  I know girls that age have lots of energy and lots of compassion.  They would be terrific supporters!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hi Girl Scout Mom!

I'm a girl scout mom, too!!  The most wonderful part of scouting, I feel, is the service aspect.  There are so many great projects that scouts are a part of.  The troops in our cluster have done many projects together in support of our troops....if you need any specific ideas just send me an email and I can let you know what has been done so far.  A really neat project my brownie girl scout is working on right now is earning the American Heritage Award (you can find the specifics on line).  There are qualifications to meet at all age levels and could be done by girl or boy scouts.  When completed the girls will earn a beautiful ribbon medal to wear on the front of their vests!!  For the service part of this, each family got a flat rate box and filled it and then the girls shared all what they put in(some of the items we made together as a troop...ie. polar fleece scarves)...it was fun and worthwhile for them to do with their families.  Also, our elementary school principal has been very supportive and has allowed a large box to be left in the foyer of our school by our troop service director for troop donations.  On Wednesday we are having a giant cluster event to sort and pack with all the girls of all ages working together....should be a lot of fun.  It would be really special if your troop could find a group to support from your area and then later the girls could actually meet them!!  Good luck with everything and take care!  Laura

Thanks for the welcome.  We did find a small AF squadron that we have chosen as our "adopted" troops!  I chose AF since we all live just up the road from Luke Air Force Base.  We are putting together our first box, hoping to get it out this weekend for Valentine's day!  we worked on cards and letters our last meeting!  The girls are very excited!
