    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hi:

For some reason, I have missed this tab on the AS pages.  My name is also Joyce but some call me Joy, although I am almost 70 yrs. old.

My father was in the Navy;uncle in the Army WWII;etc.

I live in western North Carolina but originally from Georgia.

My grandson is in the ARMY...........hhmmm wonder if that had anything to do my participation in AnySoldier.  He's had one tour of Iraq and due for another.  I know this is suppose to be about me but this kid had such a hard time getting thru high school.  When he joined the ROTC in High School - he came alive; shinning those shoes and buttons.  We are so very proud of him. Currently, he's stationed in Ky.

When he left Iraq, I had no one to send a pkg. to.  The 4ID webmaster directed me to the AnySoldier website and my church and I haven't been the same.

To the HORN Family - what wonderful, wonderful work you do; even with all the necessary restrictions I love AS.

Today, has been my first encounter with knowing a Soldier KIA. Sad Hope it's ok if I say that. He was related to one of our church families.  I wanted to make some connection to those who would understand  my feelings.

Keep on keeping on, Mr. Marty

    My name is Cheryl.

My daughter and I live in Michigan with our 7 birds.  I am a widow of a retired Air Force Master Sgt.

I just recently celebrated 35 1/2 years at my job, where we do defense jobs for the government.  My daughter works with me too.

Hello, Joy.  Losing any Soldier is a hard thing.  I lost one of my contacts and it was an awful shock.  It must be especially tough for those of you who have loved ones currently serving, increasing your fears for their safety.  I will say a special prayer for your grandson and I hope you will find lots of support for yourself here among the folks on the forum.

    Hi everyone!

Just a quick intro... I was quite a AS Support Junkie around 2005 or so, and then life happened... I started writing to contacts again in the last couple of months.  There is NOTHING like getting an envelope with "Free" in the corner!!!! Party!!!

Hello my name is Bobette i am from Carrollton Missouri.I recently joined anysoldier.com looking to write those who are away from home and who need to hear from someone or just plain out needs a friend.I have several family members who are in the marines/army and a couple of friends in the national guards.I have wrote 8 people so far and nothing yet so i still am trying to reach some who may need someone to write to them or just to listen or send them things.I am not really sure about all that i am to do or even how to use this sight each day i learn something new.So i hang in there. My grandfather who is deceased now for over 2yrs,he is an  Army man and had fought in the war yrs ago.Bofore he died he would always tell us to do our best to help those who fight for our lives and our country so as what my grand daddy has told me i am looking to help those who help us in someway.I have read so many of all of your all's messages and i am so thankful that so many has pulled together to show our men and woman fighting for our counrty that we care so much for them all.I hope in return i also get to show it as the days pass on.I feel that a letter is worth a thousand to some and the care boxes is worth as much also.I want to say Thank-you to anysoldier.com for this sight and for what they are doing and the men and woman fighting for our country. Then i also want to Thank-you all for for what you are doing also.If anyone has any suggestions in helping me in finding penpals please let me know and if i also may ask i am wanting to not use my real name does anyone know how i may change it?Thank-you and God Bless to you all!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hi all!

Hank here.  I'm in the US Air Force, a Master Sergeant (E-7), currently stationed in Korea at Osan Air Patch.

I've been in the AF for just shy of 21 years.  Love it.  I've been sending a few packages now for the past 2 to 3 months.  I'll admit, my main goal joining here was to find out 1) why I received a "you are blocked" message when asking for an address, and 2) how to correct it.

I did some volunteer work at our base P.O. over Christmas, and found out lots of good magazines were just getting thrown away.  So I figured (hoped) people downrange could use them.  I throw in some wet wipes & snacks, and about 20 lbs of current magazines, and hope the troops enjoy.  Better than just throwing the mags away.

So, that's my short how-do-you-do!  Keep up the good work, and I'm off to search for blocked answers....

    best to all

    Hank

Hi, Hank!  Welcome to the Forum -- and thank you for your service!  Great to hear from you -- wow!  Korea, huh? So great of you to send packages downrange!  I did a quick look-back and found an older thread about requesters being blocked -- here's the link -- http://forum.anysoldier.com/forums/p/1323/8975.aspx#8975.  If this doesn't help, you might want to e-mail Marty Horn at Marty@AnySoldier.com -- Marty is terrific and a real wizard at solving puzzles & problems like this.

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi from Nebraska!!  My name is Kay from a small town in Nebraska. I am so happy to have a way to send letters and boxes to our troops. They are so deserving of anything we can do for them to let them know we care. My husband and I ride with the Patriot Guard Riders also. That is awesome also. We ride to honor the fallen heroes and protect their families from nasty things. Of course the homecoming missions we do are the BEST!!  As one of you already said, it is so good to get letters and manilla envelopes with "free" written in the corner.  My husband has even started to ask if I have heard anything from "your troops" today.Smile Thank you everyone for all you are doing for the awesome men and women.  Love and blessings

    Kay
    Daughter of WWII Navy Vet
Wife of Viet Nam Air Force Vet
    Aunt of Iraq Navy Seabee
And proud of each one of them!
