Thanks again. I'll continue double-ziplocking it in that case. I try to avoid getting in the line where that postmaster is working.

Got another for ya. I know chocolate this time of year is a no-no because it melts. What about the  granola bars that have choc chips? Does the rest of the bar hold the choc in place or are they a mess, too, by the time they arrive? I have 10 on hand but will substitute if you say choc chips survie the trip, no mattter what.

Holy Cow!! Welcome to all the new and new to the forum Junkies! I can't keep up :)

Nicki from Missouri! Nice to see you here, I'm in St Louis! I think along the same lines, there's a thread that watches for "undersupported" soldiers... http://forum.anysoldier.com/forums/t/3940.aspx?PageIndex=14 you can look there too!

Tricia, are you putting your email address in your letter and inviting your contacts to write to you? I always tell them "i take requests, would rather send just what it is you need..." and "would love a chat" and email is easier almost across the board for the Soldiers now than regular mail to get out! Hope that helps :)

Sgt Sproul, honored to have you here! Thank you and your guys (and gals!) so much for what you do! You're in our thoughts and prayers!

    Welcome all! Shelly

Thank you so much for the information!! When I first saw the "warning" on the main page stating this could be addictive, I chuckled. But now I know how true it is. This is such a wonderful organization.  I have told everyone I know about it.

    Hey Zoanna

The granola bars with the chocolate chips are fine because you can just hold the wrapper and not touch it with your fingers, but for some reason they tend to hold up pretty good any way. so you should be good on those any time of the year.

Welcome!  The whole process may be bewildering at first but it's not bad once you get going.  Have you looked at the Forums about What to Send; Food Items, Hygiene Items, Non-Food Items?  There are lots of good ideas on what is popular and how to ship things, and what not to send (for example, don't but soap in a box with food items - everything will taste like soap Stick out tongue)

    Hey all Smile

Greetings from England!! I am 15 years old (almost 16). I was born over here, but my Dad's American [US Air Force] and Mum's Irish. I've always felt very strongly about helping our troops, and now I can!! Have been thinking of many uplifting DVD's [ie. one's that will GUARANTEE a smile!) to send them ( I will obviously buy them on base) and have already got an MP3. Unfortunately, I won't be doing them as often as I would like as I'm pretty low on the cash front, but i will do them Every time that I can. Every little helps!! I would also love to make a penpal :) Just thought I'd say hey!

. I am a newbie here too, and believe it or not I have only been on here for about a week and a half or so. It has been one of the best experiences of my life so far! So fulfilling! I'm not really sure what items to tell you to send but I can tell you some things that they commonly ask for. Usually its things like  snacks such as beef jerky, poptarts, trail mix, nuts, popcorn(if they have mics), drink mixes for their water, toothbrushes, toothepaste, floss, baby wipes, magazines, books, dvds, letters letters letters, spices for mres or snacks, cup o noodles, hard candy, instant oatmeal, cookies, chips, dried fruit, granola bars, tissues, and things to keep them busy and take up free time! I am sending mine soft balls, dominos, frisbees, big and small water guns(it is getting warm out there) dice, cards, chess sets. I have also been trying to send things like cutlery, and microwaveable bowls or plates that are disposable(for the oatmeal and such). I was thinking those splash balls might be good for them you can get them at so many stores, they are just balls that you soak with water and when you throw them and someone catches them they splash! Besides that I know they are always asking for things like extra socks, extra tshirts and shorts but that depends where they are at and what branch etc they may need, if its not for sleeping. If you have a contact and he is young, I serioulsy suggest myspace(not affiliated in anyway) I was lucky to find both my contacts on there and so I was able to email them right away vs waiting for a paper letter to reach them to see the things they needed! anyhow hope this helps!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hi!

I was just wondering, as I'm doing my first 2 packages today!!, if the contacts would find it kinda cool to get English snacks  [chips, candy etc.] like something a little different? Or do you think they would prefer their usual snacks that remind them of home?

    Thankyou! Smile
