Hello everyone! My name is Melissa, but my family and friends call me Missy. I hope you'll all call me Missy . I'm 33 for now and live in northern Virginia near Washington, DC. I've been up here for 2 years, before that I lived in Florida for about 17 years. My brother-in-law was an active duty Marine for 4 years and during that time did two tours in Iraq. He just got out a little over a year ago. While he was over there, I used to ask my sister what we could send to him and his fellow Marines, did they need anything, did they want letters, etc. She always said no, he was fine. Unfortunately that was just his way.... he's never been a "warm fuzzy" kind of guy. I always felt guilty though. I always felt that I needed to do something, anything, but never could figure out how or what. I did numerous internet searches and apparently I was searching in the wrong places because I just found AnySoldier.com. What an incredible opportunity this site offers. The perfect opportunity to offer our support be it with words or packages to those that make sure we sleep safely at night. Reading everyone's posts in the forums and the requests of the Soldiers, Sailors and Marines was such a humbling experience. I just found out about a week ago that my brother-in-law is being re-activated from IRR (I think that's how my sister explained it) and has to report sometime before the end of this month to find out where he's going to be stationed. I want to try in my own small part to offer the support and encouragement to those who face the life altering experiences that I will never know and will never truly understand. I hope I can make a small difference in their day because I know they already make a HUGE difference in mine. Happy Memorial Day! ~~ Their sacrifices are not so we can enjoy frivolities, their sacrifices are so that we have the choice. God Bless all those who have given me a choice in this world! ~~

Hello all from Oklahoma. I am 29 yrs. old and live with my dad here in Oklahoma. I am originally from Yuma, Arizona. Born and raised there. I was adopted right after i was born in 79. We moved here in 2000 from Texas after loosing my grandfather with Alzheimers on my birthday 1-22-00. I like it here now. I have a job that i love very much. I am a High School Grad. class of 97. I am a HUGE supporter of our wonderful military. Just wanna thank every single one of them for their service and protecting our freedom. They mean alot to me and are a huge part of my life. I dedicate "American Soldier" by singer Toby Keith to all the troops. My dad was in the Army back in 56-58. Well, that is all i wanna say at the moment. My mind has gone blank. Happy Memorial Day to all here at the forums and to our troops. Stay safe and be strong! Come home soon.

HI. My name is Ashley Chavis and I'm 22 years old and I live in North Carolina. I live with my wonderful fiance Jonathan Perry and his parents until we can get us a place to stay. We are getting married in 2009 but haven't set the date yet. In Sept. he is going to BLET(Basic Law Enforcement Training) and when he gets out, he's hoping to work with the Police Department. We have been dating for almost 2 years come July 30th. I love him with all my heart. He is my world. I am also a christian and even though I fell out of church for a while, I am now getting back into it as well as Jonathan aka JP. I love animals and I have some of my own including 5 dogs, 2 chickens, 1 cockatiel, and 2 parakeets. My favorite thing to collect is PENGUINS. I love to cross-stitch when I get the chance too. I also love to support our military so I make sure to write them letters when I can or send them a card. I don't have a job so right now it's hard for me to send them a care package. I have a cousin in the Army, a cousin in the Air Force, 3 friends in the Navy, and 2 friends in the Marines. Other things that I collect are: cigarette lighters, knives, teddybears, stuff animals, military aircraft, stickers, eagles, dolphins, gel candles, Other military stuff, etc. My hobbies are: scrapbooking, cross-stitching, skating, horseback riding, bowling, going to the theaters, hanging out with friends. Anything else you would like to know, please feel free to ask. Thanks.
Chavis, Ashley, B.

Hey everyone! My name is Erika and I live in Alaska. Since my father was in the Navy I have always wanted to find a soldier (or two) to be penpals with. My daughter's friend was talking about doing it so I got off my backside and found this great site! I do have a question and if I am in the wrong thread I apologize. I looked and did not find anywhere that looked like a better place to ask. I requested 2 addresses, for different people. When I recieved my email, they had different names both the same address and unit number. Did I do something wrong? I would like 2 seperate people & places. Any way, love the site and can't wait to get started! Erika

Hi Erika - WELCOME. Nice to see you here. I sent you a private message. Just click on your own name to find where to access it. By the way, I was just talking Alaska with a friend at work on Thursday. He has been there often and has worked as a hunting/fishing guide up there every so often. I am taking a map in to him sometime soon so he can show me some good places to go on vacation up there. North of Talkeetna was a spot he mentioned, and he said don't miss the Kenai Fjords area. (We also discovered we both wanted to go see the Polar Bears in Churchhill Canada - but that is expensive, so that may not be a happening thing on our wages.) Kathryn M.

Hello, My name is Quinn and I live in northern Michigan. I am 18 and just graduated from high school today actually. Yay! I will be going to West Virginia University this fall to study journalism. I found this site a few months ago and started sending things right away and I have to admit I am hooked! Mostly it has been letters so far, but a couple of packages too. I guess I just wanted to join this forum to get ideas, but mostly just to chat with everyone else that supports our troops. When I say "yeah, but I got a LETTER back!!!!", I want people to understand, and I figured, who better than all of you who have the same feelings! So, I know I have a lot to learn from all of you wonderful individuals. So, let the instruction begin!!! Hope to talk to you all soon.

Welcome Quinn! Maybe you can help some of us who are older know what some of the "cool" things to send would be! Glad you're here!

Congratulation Quinn - I'm sure you are excited about college in the Fall. I know the feeling about getting a letter too - I got my first letter response last week. Perhaps when you get to college you'll find some others interested in supporting the troops through this website too!
