Quinn, Congratulations on your Graduation! I just realized a few weeks ago that the graduates this year were born the year I graduated from high school (1990)! Yikes, the time flies! Glad you're here on the Forum, and enjoying your AnySoldier experience. Again, welcome to all the new Forum users - it's great to see so many new people.

Hello...
My name is Cherilyn and I am from California. I am a Social Worker with Child Protective Services. I am a single mom and was looking for some summer projects to do with my daughter and came across, "Any Solider." After reading the different posts I am overwhelmed by the generosity on this board. I am glad that I can show my daughter a strong group of people pulling together to help others. She is interested in sending toys to the children in the different areas affected by the war, and we are both looking forward to supporting our men and women fighting in the war. Thanks for this great opportunity!

Hi to all the newbies!! Soon you'll be junkies too
Cherilyn there are quite a few mom and kiddo combos prowling around here! You can get some great tips on things the kids can do special for the contacts! The soldiers LOVE drawings and letters from the wee ones. For sending to kids too, there is a thread on the board where people just kind of point out that contacts have asked for that kind of thing... the "Hearts and Minds" thread... hope this link works... http://forum.anysoldier.com/forums/t/4866.aspx?PageIndex=3
Welcome too Petra! We think military families are rocks too!! We'll be picking you and your hubby's brain for ideas!
Happy packing all... Shelly

Hi! I'm George
from Atlanta (hence the GeorgeATL). I've been sending packages to guys from this
website for a couple of years now.
Though I had remembered hearing that the forum area had been created, I
hadn't checked it out until yesterday.
Then I spent about 8-hours going through postings on some of the guys I
support, so I thought that I would join.
I have sent literally
thousands of packages out, but last Fall I lost my job and so
things have slowed considerably.
Nonetheless, I do what I can, when I can. I've been a travel agent for over 20-years,
and have now started my own business working from home and hope to have the
income to do more for the soldiers in the near future.
Though I would like to think that I won't become a "junkie",
I have the feeling that's probably going to be the case. I just have to limit myself. No matter what anyone thinks about things in Iraq,
Afghanistan and
elsewhere, our soldiers deserve our support.
It's like I tell friends. . . You
might hate the owner of a football team. .
you might hate the coaches. . . but you always support the players, no
matter what.
Finally, and in the spirit
of "full disclosure", I'm gay. No, I don't
carry a flag or anything, but it is a part of me, just like being fat! (I've got to start sending out more cookies
than I eat! LOL)
Thanks for having me!
I look forward to doing what I can to support the cause, and learning
some great tips from you all as well!
George

Hi Cherilyn!
I think you are going to love it here. Make sure, if you haven't already selected troops to support that you use the "Search" function on the the right hand side of the "Where to Send" page if you are looking for something special like "toys", "children", etc. It's a shortcut to find those who particularly are focused toward the kids. You might also check out Bret T Liberatore (Army, Afghanistan) whose unit supports an orphanage (all boys, but still a worthy cause).
I grew up in the SF Bay Area although live in the Central Valley now. There are other supporters from CA although I think mainly So CA. Where do you live? Would be cool if we could all meet each other some day.
Well, will sign off. Again, just wanted to bid you welcome! May you be blessed with your AnySoldier efforts!

Of course, we ALL know, and agree, that we NEVER send anything illegal.
If you are not sure if what you are doing is illegal, then you will have to explain that to the judge.

Kym,
Of course, there is no soliciting on this site, so if you are selling these, its a no-go.
If you are donating them, very cool thing you are doing.

Hello!
My cousin from Maryland introduced me to this website!!! I'm a police officer from Ohio, I am going through a divorce right now (Yuck!) and while talking to my cousin about how I would really like to do different kinds of charity work, volunteering etc. she told me about this site. I have a craft/charity night once a week at my house where my friends come over and we make blankets, care packages etc. This website is definately going to be our focus! I have several members of my family that are/were military and a friend/co-worker that was killed by a road-side bomb 2 years ago in June. I have a huge spot in my heart for the brave men and women that risk their lives to protect mine. Ok, more about myself, since I'm supposed to be introducing myself!!! I've been a police officer for 3 years now, I was a dispatcher/911 operator for 7 years before that. I really enjoy running, I completed my first marathon in January at the Walt Disney World marathon with Team in Training. I just started on my department's softball team, our first game was this evening, I haven't played since I was 19!!! (not that i'm much older than that!! LOL!) But hey, I did get an RBI tonight!!! Guess that's all for now, I'm not one to talk about myself too much! Thank you for starting this website, it truly is amazing!!!
