Welcome, Bryn! I think our troops love hearing from other countries to know that their hard work is appreciated.

Welcome Bryn!!!  I thank you so much for your good wishes.  We hope you find this site and opportunity as wonderful as we "junkies" have.  Even though we are mostly supporting "our boys", those young men and women are supporting the cause of freedom for everyone.  When freedom is lost to one group of people we all lose.  Don't hesitate to ask any questions you may have.  You will find friendship and support for yourself here.  Again, welcome!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi my name is Rachelle and I am supporting all of our wonderful military! I live in California, actually not to far from Travis AFB. I have sponsored a group of 100 soldiers in Iraq and have just shipped off their first care package. It feels so good to be giving to our military when all they do is give to us. God bless our troops!

By the way, I plan on enlisting in either the Navy or Air Force in 2 years! I can't wait!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

Hi my name is Lu aka Heart of Hush, I am from Sydney Australia, and I am just a mum, no one special.
I do and have organised many ONLINE shows to entertain the troops, past and present, being for the 4th of July and also Christmas shows.
I am currently organising for The 4th Of July Dedication Tribute to the Troops 2008 room.

I will try and explain this as brief as possible and add a link so you can get an idea.
I am not being cocky or stuck up, just stating what is done, so please don’t take offense.

The point of all that I do is to help the troops, their families and friends and people none of us know, world wide.

I create, organize, promote, and advertise, record the whole show, to entertain the troops overseas by radio broadcast from a designated music room on a program called Paltalk.

No Paltalk does not support the room, this is what I have done and the Paltalk users do.

Many Paltalk users come into the room, they sing songs, or play them, which ever pleases them the most, they can say thank you on mic, dedicate and pay tribute to the troops and the troops can hear what everyone is saying, singing, playing etc. As long as it is safe for the troops to hear this that is..

Or if you didn’t want to visit Paltalk you can always listen from one of the many radio stations that are broadcasting this scheduled event.

This gives the troops some encouragement to know that people do care and that people do appreciate just exactly what they are doing for the world’s safety.

I am using this site to spread the word, and hopefully if you have the time to come on in and share your thoughts, your inspirational words, just your voice gives the troops some positive thoughts.

You can video, cam as well; many times we have troops visit Paltalk and the room.

Heavens I could write all day, but I will try and explain it further.

Please visit the website and if you have any questions, please ask me, if you don’t ask you won’t know.

The following message is what I have emailed out to many people.

Could you pleaseeee help me spread the word to the troops, their families and friends please.

I need your help so that I can help others.

Can you help with advertising on websites or if you are a radio station manager you may want to add your station in the room as well, maybe someone can see if the room can have a radio link up to the troops.I would rather be safe knowing I said everything and have back up.

    Thank you

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hello!

My name is Toni and I have been sending out greetings and packages to the troops for a couple of years or so.

For a while I was much less able to afford to do this, but things have improved.

I think I might be a "junkie" about this because it is the first thing I want to do each morning. My sister is at least an "enabler" as she mails my stuff for me, thus putting up with all the crazy stuff the postal people come up with. She also has been acquiring some of the goodies we send out.

I thought I had seen a place on here where you can type in the item you have and then find out who might want or need such an item, but now I can't find it. Can anyone help me find it? I have been thinking about making up a bunch of pillowcases with some of my fabric "collection" and sending them out to those requesting such things.

I send out letters, little plastic canvas crosses that I make, and dark elastic hair ties that I make. It turns out you can send 2 of the little crosses and a letter for the regular price of 42 cents! A few hair ties and a letter go through fine for 42 cents also! The envelope just has to be pretty flat, so I put the hair ties on a piece of cardboard so they don't clump up in one spot.

We are able to send out a few boxes of goodies also. The flat rate boxes help out there.

God bless our service members and all of you who are helping them!

    Toni

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hi Toni!

Welcome to the forum.  Doing AS support is at least an e-ticket ride, so hang on for a good time, with good people.

Now, about that search:  Just go to the "Where to Send" Page and there are two magnifying glasses that will take you to the same search page.  One is located on the top of the right hand side of the page.  The other is on the left near the "View Contacts By..."(Remember, with the "View..." you can search for females also).  Then you can search for hair ties or scrunchies or whatever.  Hope you find what you seek.

I know the troops love letters as much as they do packages so keep up the good work.  Don't forget that if you write Marines or other service member which are located on a Marine base you can send FREE mail even with photos.  Check out GeorgeATL 's postings about Motomail!  You send via email, and they are printed and hand-delivered to your person within 24 hours!

Have fun and don't hesitate to ask questions.  Good luck.

    Thanks a bunch Debbie!

I found the search thing and have made my list of those wanting pillowcases. Next week I'm visiting with my son and his family. I will take my sewing machine and my granddaughter and I will be making pillowcases for the service members. It is nice to have something constructive to do and be able to help someone too!

    Thanks again!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Toni--

I've never thought about MAKING pillowcases for them, although I did for some small children years ago...  I made them for each upcoming Holiday (Christmas, Valentines's Day, Easter, etc.) with appropriate fabric.   Thanks for stirring up those memories.  I might do it again for my troops when I get out from under the current project...LOL.  I did see that someone else made one with a photo transfer of a soldier's "Sweetie" which I thought was a cool idea.  You might want to take a look at the "Cool Ties" thread since you'll have your sewing machine in gear...LOL  Take care and thank you for suggesting the making of pillow cases.  Perhaps near the Cool Ties thread you ought to start one for pillow cases made with love and thanks to bring on sweet dreams of loved ones and peace.

    Re: Pillowcases

I have always enjoyed making things for others. The way my mind works is different than usual. I look at whatI have or can acquire cheaply or reasonably and think of what to make out of it. I think most people think of what they would like to make and go get the stuff to do so. My way is probably from living in relative poverty most of my life. However I got this way, I'm glad I did. I really like creating things. I have some homemade bias tape that is a Barbie print. I was thinking it might be cool to bind the edges of some of the pillowcases for the females with it. I'm sure I will think of more ideas in a while when I am sorting through my fabric collection.

God bless our service members and all of you who are helping them!

    Re: Pillowcases

Homemade pillowcases are wonderful .  My Mom has made many to send and they have been extremely well received.

They range from military prints to Disney theme, Mickey Mouse, Cars, Care Bears, Tweety Bird, etc.

Barbie print will be perfect for the girls!  Welcome aboard!

Welcome, fellow Junkie... I've been sending packages, letters, guardian angel cards, e-mails and such to troops for three and a half years - and I don't even know anyone personally who has a family member in the military. Every penny that isn't already budgeted for something else goes for "stuff" and postage, and yeah, a lot of my free time as well is spent on the troops. I only have 2 children, but 7 grandchildren - aren't grandchildren wonderful??

Once again, welcome aboard! You're among friends here!

    Re: Introduce yourself!!

    Hello Everyone!

I recently joined but haven't posted anything yet, trying to figure out how to do this... I sometimes find myself technology impaired.. =\ haha

Anyways, =) My name is Ashley Wyma. I am currently living in Las Vegas, and I have been here for 2 years.. (1 if I count the year away at college) I have been able to move around the country a couple of times and I enjoy getting to experience the differences everywhere I have lived. Moving has allowed me to grow to love to travel, and I hope that one day I will get to see the world!

I am helping support two groups of Marines out of California.  I have always wanted to help support our military and I hope that I will be able to for many years to come also. After finding this site and seeing all the other loving and supporting people here, I think I will be able too. This site seems like a wonderful place to get together with other people loving to do the same thing! Thank you for having such a helpful site, not only for the now and future junkies, but for the military also. (And I can definitely see myself becoming a junkie! I already love scavenger hunting for good items and prices to send)

I would love to hear from and makes friends with others on this site. Support, no matter where you are in life, is always a pleasant thing to have. (And makes it a lot more fun!!) Thanks everyone for what you do!

    God Bless.

    Ashley
